Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
There are families (Muslim & Pakistani) that got hit by the disaster and most of them (whoever were in touch with their local masjids) were in touch with Muslim relief orgs in Dallas/Houston (Texas) and hopefully they are taken care of.
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
^ Yep they are....According to the local desi radio station there were 300 families that came to Houston from the "Disaster-hit-Areas"
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
There were 733 people from det who offered housing to the evacuees, 233,875 beds volunteered so far nationwide! I wonder how many were desi. Would any of you offer your home to any pakistani/muslim families or even ppl for free?
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
^ some desi people in Dallas area have offered, I'm don't know if they were relatives or not.
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
Are the masjids housing any people?
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
I haven’t seen any such measure being taken.
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
Yeah the masjids are open but no one wants to go in. They are too scared that it might be a booby trap or an IEM (Improvised Explosive Mosque). You know NawLeans guys do know the mahavra “Asman seh ghira khujor or chuavary meh atka or something”
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
man houston has like two hundred plus thousand extra peeople!!!!
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas

Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
All the people that I know from Long Beach, MS to Baton Rouge are safe & were out of the city well before the storm. Their houses and business aren't.
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
No he was a bit unfortunate..he was in Houston..
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
yep, any “lost” Muslim will consider a Masjid as booby-trap.
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
mosques are not just place of worship, it is suppose to be a community center for muslims as well with various activities, atleast thats how it is here in Toronto. i am sure mosques in TX n other areas are helping ppl out.
any news about shikra lately?
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
**If you have seen the news lately, you saw a glimpse of the devastation we are witnessing here in south Louisiana. I will be brief and spare you all the emotional details, I just want to let the Muslim community at large know that there are hundreds of thousands of New Orleans residents who are displaced by Hurricane Katrina, including thousands of Muslims.
The community here in Baton Rouge is not very large, but we tried to arrange for the displaced families to be hosted in individual homes, so many of us are hosting 15 or 20 people, but there are still a large number of people who are living in the masjid here, which has very limited bathroom access, no showers, etc. (not adequate living facilities for families). Right now there are at least 7 or 10 infants in the masjid under 1 years old who need formula, diapers, etc which are urgently needed because supplies in the stores are very minimal to unavailable. We are not an affluent community, but by the grace of Allah (swt), a generous donation came in from ICNA , and the masjid is providing three hot meals a day for hundreds of New Orleans refugees, but we really need our national community to come together insha'Allah. People lost their home, their jobs, their businesses, and have no where to go for the next few months.
Anyone who can help in any capacity, if it may be to send boxes of clothes, toiletries, or donate money, or even to organize a group of children to make greeting cards to lift the spirits of the children here, you can email me back and I can coordinate it through the appropriate officials at our masjid. If you would like to direcly contact the masjid:
Islamic Center of Baton Rouge
820 West Chimes Street
Baton Rouge, LA 70802
ph# (225) 387-3617
We are trying to do what we can for all those that are here, but we can't do it alone, please, we really need a national response insha'Allah.
Most important we need your duaa'
jazakum Allahu khayran wa barak Allahu feekum.**
I got this e-mail. Please please please, if you can send donations or supplies to this location, please do so.
Mods, I don't know if its possible, but is there any way, we can set up a sticky thread with locations you can donate to - for both non-muslims and muslims of course?
Thanks.
Re: Pakistanis and Muslims in Disaster-hit Areas
