Pakistanis accused of ball-tampering

Pakistan secured a 108-run victory with a remarkable late burst that brought eight wickets in the last session at Old Trafford to level the two-match series.

But four of the England victims fell to what many observers felt should have been no-balls from bowlers leaving their leading leg in front of the crease.

And there was further controversy when television pictures appeared to show Pakistan captain Waqar Younis gouging and scratching the ball.

Such an action is thought to aid extravagant swing of the ball.

Similar accusations were levelled at Pakistan eight years ago in England.

On that occasion, Waqar and Wasim Akram bowled the tourists to a 2-1 series victory.

Those suggestions of foul play have always been strenuously denied, and Waqar was keen to play down the latest speculation.

Channel 4 sparked the latest row with pictures on their Monday night highlights programme.

Presenter Mark Nicholas said: “If the match referee had been watching on television, one wonders what he would have made of those pictures.”

Umpire warning

But Waqar denied the allegation, stressing: “No one spoke to me about the ball.”

And tour manager Yawar Saeed insisted: "If there was any ball tampering I would have known about it.

“There was absolutely nothing wrong. We won the match fair and square and people should be happy with that.”

The Pakistan captain did, however, confirm that umpire David Shepherd spoke to him about his players running on the pitch.

But both officials confirmed no action would be taken.

Match referee Brian Hastings elected not to discipline anybody after warning both sides about their behaviour on Saturday evening.

Hey u Mr. know-alls,

I did not make that up. The ball-tempering story was was from BBC site.

By the way, atleast FOUR English-batsmen were “dismissed” on NO-BALLS:

Batsman: Nick Knight, Bowler: Wasim Akram, Umpire: Ed Nichols, SCORE: 230-6

Batsman: Ian Ward, Bowler: Saqlain Mushtaq, Umpire: David Shephard, SCORE: 230-7

Batsman: Andrew Caddick, Bowler: Saqlain Mushtaq, Umpire: David Shepherd, SCORE: 230-8

Batsman :Dominic Cork, Bowler: Saqlain Mushtaq, Umpire: David Shepherd, SCORE: 261-9

Chilli, I dont know what you are trying to prove by saying that four players were dismissed by no balls. Surely this shows how poor the umpiring was rather than any slight on the brilliance of the Pakistani bowlers. If you are going to point out the incorrect decisions than how come you forgot to mention Yousef Youhanna being given out when he was not out and in Englands second inning Trescothick being given not out when he was clearly out. All these decisions at the end of the day reflect on poor umpiring and the quicker the greater use of technology is made the better it will be. However, whether you like it or not Pakistan did win and the English press have a habit of making excuses and blaming Pakistan whenever they lose. Imagine what they would have been saying if these umpires were Pakistanis. Isnt it amazing that no ball tampering took place at Lords?

The 8 wickets which fell after tea were all after the new ball had been taken. So the ball-tampering story was probably just to deflect the shame the English obviously felt at being beaten at home with one of their own umpires standing at one end.

I hate BBC and English loosers. They are sore loosers. They didn't make such a hoo haa when they got advantage of doubt in the match when they won. Empires are free to decide whatever and they did change the ball but yet they like to cry.

Whenever they loose, they just start to cry well before the match is finished. If the empires haven't spoken out then media shouldn't have the right to make judgements.

It's typical of the English to complain about anything they can when they lose.

After reading the metro this morning, respect to Alec Stewart....
England skipper Alec Stewart - who saw his own side benefit from some dubious decisions earlier in the match - refused to blame upmires David Shepherd and Eddie Nicholls for the defeat.

Stewart said: "The umpires do a job to the best of their ability. Everyone makes mistakes - they are human beings - but the plain fact is, **Pakistan beat us*.

Twenty years ago, when there were two cameras, things like that weren't picked up. Now there are up to 15 and everything can be seen."*
well dont talk abt ball tampering, it waqs clearly seen in the England innings that Caddick was peeling of the seam n not also that he was scratching one of the sides with thumb, but at that instant the English commentators were simple talkin abt somethin else n the focus frm that also changed, it was only for few secs, n after that hardly the cameramen focused on the English bowlers!

well i accept that Pakistan got couple of wickest which were definately no-balls n thats not the rite way to get wickets, but if u have seen the match match there were many decisions which were in paks favor n never given out, n later in the newspaper it was said that the umpirin was no doubdtly below standards but all in all it was square as there were definate not outs in Pakistan innings like Youhana n Younis Khan

so u cant just say anythin wrong to the team, as this time the umpires were concerned, n Pak has been suffering due to away umpiring for a long time, they had definately won the series in West Indies if the umpires had given the confirm outs lekin it was a nod, n then Pakistan also were unlucky to in Australia in the second test, that loss really had brought Pak's morale down!

so all in alll should be seeeen in general case, y Pak is always involved?????

Hey one more thing
These things are hard to explain
For some it seems strange... to swallow
The frontier of our minds
Is the last place we find
But maybe the first place we should go

oye, leave the scots out of it. we have the best behaviour in all games including football and cricket.

Scots know they will never win so why even try

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

A famous soccer coach once said about scottish soccer team…the play a medieval game where the ball is kicked right in front of the other teams goal and a battle occurs in trying to score a goal..

hehe i hafta give it to the scots, their coach heard this grinned and said “well they must have seen us play”
