Pakistani wins assembly seat
NEW YORK: An American-Pakistani on Tuesday became the first Muslim to be elected to a district assembly of the United States. Despite the overwhelming victory secured by the Democrats in the US mid-term elections, Republican Saghir Tahir won 63 percent of votes in the Hampshire State Assembly, making it his fourth electoral victory since 1990. Contesting the Manchester constituency, which is home to few Muslims and South Asians, Tahir secured the Caucasian vote by focusing on core issues and refraining from playing the race or religion card. Tahir is originally from the Punjabi city of Sahiwal. nni
Subhan’Allah.
