Pakistani Weddings in the West -- Picking vendors

For those of you doing a desi-style wedding in the West:

Were there any vendors that you felt had to be desi for your wedding events? Others that you preferred were not desi?

Consider vendors for:

  1. your clothes
  2. photography
  3. make-up
  4. videography
  5. venue
  6. catering

Any others?

Re: Pakistani Weddings in the West -- Picking vendors

I had to have a desi videographer, because I dont know anything about bollywood songs, so I needed someone who would know what songs to put in my video.

My husband insisted on a desi photographer, even though I wanted someone non-desi. He said its because they understand our weddings better, and know what to capture. In the end we had a desi photographer, and we were both really disappointed in our pictures. Im not saying we were disappointed cause the photographer was desi; we were disappointed because we chose someone that didnt understand us, and I guess didnt really listen to what we wanted.

Caterer had to be desi! Except for our desserts (dessert table, juice fountain and chocolate fountains), everything else was by a desi caterer.

Makeup - I had to have Shirley Wu (in Toronto). She is Chinese-Pakistani, so I guess she is considered desi too.

Venue, didnt have to be desi. I wasnt picky about that. But they did end up being desi.

My clothes were all from Pakistan, so there was no question there.
