^ it's not only phpbb, almost all of them including the V bulletin - currently being used by gupshup - are prone to attacks such as these. she/he probably hacked some admin's account deleted all the forums and changed the top logo...hope the site's been keeping back-ups of all the content...

The kid used SQL injection. I know that exploit also its pretty cool.
The Hack was done by some LAME script kiddies also. Most of the phpbb exploits are SQL injection or session spoofing related.
