WASHINGTON, Aug 20: A Pakistani, Mohammed Arif, is running for the governor’s post in California, his campaign manager said on Wednesday.
“This is the first time in history that a Pakistani American is running for any such office in the United States,” said campaign manager Aamir Raees.
He appealed to Pakistanis to be “more involved in the political process in America.”
Referring to the difficulties Pakistani and other Muslim Americans faced since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he said that unless Pakistani-Americans joined the mainstream politics, they would never have a say in the country.
He said Pakistanis and other Muslim Americans could only have an effective voice if they had elected representatives at all levels.
Mr Arif was certified as a nonpartisan candidate by California Secretary of State Kevin Shelley on Aug 14 for the Oct 7 election.
^ That's a really dumb reason, particularly if you do it in a democracy. Would you prefer a corrupt Muslim over a honest and efficient non-Muslim? Why?

ur hatred for muslims is apparent .. how sick u r ...
Tom, it is not dumb. Never support a Muslim for any office. Don't you see what they have done to their countries? I don't want that to be done to my country, the United States.

Why do you say I hate muslims? I don't!
Supporting somebody to office based soley on their religion is pretty dumb don't you think? Whether it be muslim, christian or Hindu.

Hi tom, replying to your above quoted post have you ever heard of the term called minority appeasement? If the US is a true democracy it must visibally show that religion, cast, creed. Dont matter in politics..
If you have trouble understanding US or basic politics then refer to the Websters guide to international politics.. Dont worry its quite non techinical a book for simple fourth graders...
All you need is $3,500 and 65 signatures. We were trying to convince another friend to file his papers. Then for the rest of his life he can put it under his name "Former candidate for the Governor of California".
All 135 also-rans in this recall election are invited by Jay Leno to participate as audience in a special show so he can poke fun at them. Most are willing to swallow the indignation just for their 3 second mug-shot on national television. This is what these 135 candidates in the recall represent. Their three seconds of fame. The recall is called a three-ring circus and these 135 candidates are openly called clowns in the local media.
Good luck to Mr. Arif. I would hope he has better and more sincere intentions for running in this election.
