accent changes, dont think many changes other than that...

I think fir is not North. It’s towards Bombay side. :hmmm: Not sure

Pakistani Urdu is North Indian Urdu... Not much difference.

There are differences. Depends on where in North India one lives too. North Indian Urdu is also heavily influenced now by Hindi. It's not a horrible thing. Languages evolve that way.

Difference: a lot of people in North India say Hum (I) while Pakistanis say main (I). Some North Indians I have heard say darkar (want) while mostly Pakistanis would say chahiy.

By Pakistani urdu you mean Karachi area or overall pakistan?

Pakistanis use hindi words too. No?

Indian Urdu I believe is more hindiized, where as in Pakistan you can see the accent change too depending on where you live.

Not that much. They won't say ghar jamai instead of ghar damad for example.

Fir ain't a northern thing...seems like even the Hindi speaking say phir.

Fir drives me batty

So does replacing "z" with "j"....jeera instead of zeera.

So does "kara tha".....It's kiya tha !!!

So does meray ko-teray ko...whereas mujhay/tumhe/aap ko sound better.

I don't even care if these are a Northern Urdu feature or not...I don't like it.

These two factors are major , but vocabulary weight more.

  • Accent
  • Vocabulary (borrowing words from Perisan/Arabic or Sanskrit )

North Indian Urdu: Ham nay ajj Biryani khai hia.
Pakistani Urdu: Mainy ajj Biryani khai hia.

Indian Muslim who speak Urdu use Ham (I) for singular. :hehe:

Pakistani Urdu has Punjabi influence; North India Urdu (Lucknow etc) is pure.

Pakistani Urdu speakers move their head up & down when they agree.... North Indian Urdu speakers (others as well) move their heads left-to-right with some angular movement when they agree.

My lab director asked me once, why people from India do this, I don't know if they are saying yes or no? And I was like ... how the hell I know man!

Word. I would say..these are my pet peeves too. Like wth is firrrr. It's Phir. Northern India might be similar but not same. I like Urdu much formalized and sounds better.
