Pakistani Teen Tennis Sensation : Ahsan Qureshi

I was watching his match on DD Sports where Ahsan Qureshi from Pakistan was playing his finals and he defeated his opponent quite easily on 6-3 and 6-4. He even won the last year’s tournament and looked good.

Now he’ll go to U.S as the commentators stated.

:jhanda:

isn't he the player that plays with the yahood

Are you talking about tennis?

Do u mean Aisam qureshi or is this some new guy???

Re: Pakistani Teen Tennis Sensation : Ahsan Qureshi

Well Pakistan has defeated Taiwan 3-1 in the latest group matches (Asia - Oceania Grp I - round 2). Does anyone know how the D Cup is organised, i.e. where do we go from here? Who’s next on our path?

Aisam’s victory puts Pakistan in World Group playoff

By Mohammad Yaqoob

LAHORE, May 1: Aisamul Haq created history when he booked a World Group playoff berth for Pakistan after a thumping straight set triumph over Taiwan’s Lu Yen in reverse singles in the Davis Cup Asia Oceania Group-I on Sunday. Leading 2-1 after singles and doubles on Friday, Aisam confirmed Pakistan’s unassailable 3-1 lead when he dispatched Lu Yen 6-3 6-4 6-3 in one hour 50 minutes, while his countryman Aqeel finished off with 6-7 (7-5) 6-4 6-2 win over Ti Chen to make it a 4-1 victory.

Pakistan now meet either the United States or Spain in the qualifying round in September this year. Pakistan had failed to enter the World Group qualifiers in 1984 after beaten by Japan. “I can not describe my feelings. It’s really a dream come true. It is a historical moment and now government and Pakistan Tennis Federation must take giant steps for the promotion of the game in the country.

“This moment is special for me. I think it is a milestone. Wind favoured me, but Yen is a fine player,” Aisam said after the match.

“I will congratulate Pakistan for entering the World Cup qualifiers. I was not fully fit but was instructed by my coach to play. Aisam is a fine player and Pakistan is a strong side,” Yen said at Defence Stadium.

With brilliant passing shots, anticipation and court coverage, Aisam prevailed over the Taiwanese. Both Aisam and Yen were tied at 2-2 in the first set before the Pakistani made it 3-2, holding his serve.

Aisam led 4-2 by breaking Yen in the sixth game after a couple of deuces. While Aisam had an advantage, Yen hit the net to give Aisam a vital lead.

In the second set, Aisam again broke Yen in the seventh game to edge closer to take a 4-3 lead. After three deuces, Yen failed to return a half volley as Aisam broke the serve. Aisam hardly saved his serve before going 5-3 ahead in the next game.

Yen was leading 40-15 before Aisam recovered by hitting back-to-back aces and then had three deuces to save the serve.

Aisam dominated in the third set as he broke Yen in the first game when the visitor was down 15-30 and hit the net twice. Aisam held his serve in the next to consolidate the lead 2-0. Yen made it 2-all holding his own serve in the third game and breaking Aisam’s in the fourth.

The Pakistani was not impressed as he took 3-2 lead by breaking Yen in the fifth game. He surged 4-2 ahead by holding his own serve to secure a 5-3 advantage and again broke in the ninth game to win the set and match with ease.

As Pakistan had already qualified for the World Group playoff, Taiwan opted to field Chen instead of Wang Yeu Tzuou against Aqeel in the second reverse singles.

Aqeel could not start on a confident note as both players broke each other’s serves to decide the first set on tie-breaker which the Pakistani finally won.

After a shaky start, Aqeel overpowered his Taiwanese opponent and won the second and third sets 6-4 6-2 in two hours.

Meanwhile, Pakistan tennis team manager Rashid Malik and coach Mohammad Khalid urged Pakistan Tennis Federation to give maximum international exposure to all the members of Davis Cup team in order to prepare them for tougher World qualifying round.

Rashid said that the international exposure would put the Davis Cup team in a better position to play against USA or Spain at home, but if Pakistan had had to play at away-home basis it would prove difficult for them.

He praised Aisamul Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan for working hard to catapult Pakistan into the world zone. In past Pakistan Tennis Federation did not even take the trouble of planning any preparation programme for Aisam or Aqeel for the last tie against Thailand or for Islamic Games for that matter.

The federation has come to rely heavily on the two players and no other player seem able to replace them in case either of them has a fitness problem. Coach Khalid also agreed to Rashid’s point of view and said that international exposure had always made a difference.

“The game Aisam is playing today is the result of his vast international exposure and we need to have all the four members of Davis Cup team well prepared for high quality matches,” he said.

Khalid said both Aqeel and Aisam do have potential to defeat any world class player still they need to play more matches on the international circuit, to be able to claim top honours.

Result (reverse singles):
**
Aisamul Haq (Pakistan) bt Lu Yen (Taiwan) 6-3 6-4 6-3; Aqeel Khan (Pakistan) bt Ti Chen (Taiwan) 6-7 (7-5) 6-4 6-2.

congrats to the lad and best wishes for the future. make ur proud :k:

Re: Pakistani Teen Tennis Sensation : Ahsan Qureshi

Maybe the govt. should try and divert some cash from the cricket to other "minor" sports, like tennis, volleyball, squash, athletics, etc. to enable youngsters to take up these sports.

Great going for the tennisers!! Even winning one match vs. USA or Spain will be a tremendous achievement.
Hopefully they will play at Wimbledon. Anyone know?

Wasn’t Marlboro actually doing that one time, promoting new sports like roller skate hockey, softball and frisbee?

I know it’s kinda ironic that a tobacco company was promoting sports, but still.
