CHICAGO: A quarrel over a fare early this morning on Chicago’s North Side led to the death of a Pakistani cab driver when a man allegedly beat the cabbie and then ran him over with his own taxi, Chicago Tribune reported on Friday.
The incident happened shortly after midnight on the 500 block of West Briar Place, near Broadway in the city’s Lakeview neighborhood, police said.
They identified the victim as Haroon Paryani, 61, a Pakistani emigrant, North Side resident and father of four who several weeks ago was robbed and punched in the face in another attack. Witnesses told police Paryani and another man were arguing over a fare. The men allegedly traded obscenities, threats and punches, and the other man pulled the driver out of the cab.
