Pakistani style bridals in US?

Hi all,

I just came back from nyc and was sadly disappointed with the bridal selection at jackson heights.. they had some gorgeous pieces, but everything was just the same fishtail skirt with a small corset bodice choli. Not at all what I’m looking for. The problem is that I’m REALLY hesitant to have to go abroad to shop for bridal outfits. It would cut costs down by a landslide if I could just somehow get something made without having to fly over.

So my question is are there any boutiques or representatives based in the US that I can consider to help me get the dress I want made? I am not on a time crunch at all. I’m just hoping there’s a way to get something custom made without having to travel. I’ve considered (A) having a friends or family that live abroad shop for me and send me samples to help get my dress made, (B) contacting a designer or boutique who takes international phone orders, or (C) finding a boutique in the US that will actually care and make a custom outfit the way I want it, etc. Any suggestions? Does anyone have any advice or info or contacts on the matter?? Any help would be really appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Pakistani style bridals in US?

I cant remember which designers now, but I do know some designers have reps. in the states (california, Chicago, Dallas, NY). I will see if I can find that information for you, but you should also look through other threads on this site, because someone else may know who has stuff in the states. Also, a lot of designers take international orders, you just have to contact them.

Theres Sobia Saleem, I believe she sees clients based on appointments but Im not sure where exactly her boutique but I think she also holds exhibitions through out the year in different cities. Check out her website and check if she’ll be coming to a town near you.

if you have any pakistani bridal magazines, those will tell you if any designers have boutiques in US. I have a few at home (Im at work right now), I will check those tonight, and give you the info tonight.

Re: Pakistani style bridals in US?

thanks saima and the rest of you for being so helpful! any one else's suggestions and advice would also be really appreciated! :)

New question, Do you guys think it's better to check out these contacts and boutique reps and find a lengha they make that I would like? or is it possible to send one of them photos of the look I want and ask them to make something similar, with of course their style kaam and kapre, or whatnot. What do you guys think? Has anyone had experience with getting a karigar or darjee to actually make a dress out of scratch according to your own design?

Re: Pakistani style bridals in US?

Re: Pakistani style bridals in US?

alot of home-based designers who advertise on GS do bridals and many of them have superb reviews…

Re: Pakistani style bridals in US?

ok, so after looking through my magazines, I was only able to find that Mehdi has a rep. in Los Angeles, but of course they didnt print any contact information. but he does have a website. mohdmehdi.com (I believe that is it). All the information can be found there.

Also, I dont think designers are too keen on making dresses copied from someone else. but what you can do is tell them what you like, or show them what you like, and they can probably take one of their own designs, and add in some of the stuff you like. Like change the colours, make the kameez longer/shorter, etc. but that is just with designers.

If you are getting it from someone who copies outfits....I dont know if I would trust them to make something original. Because they dont really have that artistic flair, they are just taking someone elses designs and copying them, so they really dont have much talent of their own. thats just my opinion.

i hope you find something you like! I know how hard it is to find the perfect wedding lengha!
