Pakistani students make ultra light plane

ISLAMABAD (April 25 2003) : Two students of the University of Engineering, Taxila, have successfully made one-seat aircraft.

According to details, Asim Suhail and Muzaffar Baig, students of the Mechanical Department in the UET, Taxila, invented single-seat ultra-light aircraft with the investment of only Rs 100, 000.

They disclosed that this project was started in December 2000, and added that all the material, used in the plane, was made in Pakistan.

They said the frame of plane was made by aluminium and steel. The plane could fly up to the height of 10,000 feet at a speed of 130 kilometres per hour, consuming just 16-liter fuel, they added.

They declared that the test flight of the plane would be made in Taxila University during the next few days and it could be used for supply and espionage purposes.

They said that if the government provided funds, they could start work on fighter planes also.-PPI

Great work by these dudes! :k: They have made us all proud.

Now, someone should go and break this news very gently to them that making a viable modern fighter aircraft is slightly different kinda proposition compared to a diet-replica of Wright brothers’ original.

ps. It would have helped if they had actually flown the plane before announcing it in the press. You know.. things happen, sometimes.

i don't know what is your background but to tell you the truth it is not difficult than building a car. it's just on a different scale where you need resources and i don't doubt any proper mechanical engineer's ability if he makes such claims.

remember, it's not important what you can do but what you can foresee. :)

Re: Pakistani students make ultra light plane

thANX for the info frnd !!
but i wonder these sort of projects r accomplshed at a few more places as well. for example in pakistan air force acdemy risalpur.
i wonder if u can give some details like load factor, take-off run , manoeuver envelop of this aircraft. then it would be more use full to know about this aircraft.
by the way good luck to those guys invented it ......

Yeah, barhkein marnay say tau mana nahi kiya kissi nay.

But to actually build a credible fighter plane which can effectively challange the enemy aircrafts is not exactly a walk in the park. I believe, there is a lot of research and technology which goes into a viable modern fighter aircraft, and putting a "first draft" of a fighter airplane to face 'em is like creating a sitting duck.

In any case, this is just that. Gupshup and nitpicking. I really feel these two students have done a great job by producing a proto-type of an aircraft. Hopefully they will be able to fly it successfully too. Any follow-up news on that?

people who say it cannot be done should not "discourage" those who are doing it.

every journey starts with a single step :)

I scored 66 when playing Golf on my computer. Next I am planning to play and win the US Masters in Augusta in 2004.

'Enuf said. :)

Point being, what they did was great. Lets just keep it real.

Faisal yar...

I agree with you this is not a revolutionary feat, but you should realize that even for a senior design project, this was exceptionally good. The students had limited funding, and are from UET. I have sympathy with them, whenever I see enthusiastic and energetic students from UET taxila, who want to work hard and do something. Had you seen the condition of UET tax., you would not have said all this. Some of these students have to undergo months of strikes that other students call and their studies have to suffer in the process. Most students end up completing their degrees an year or two late because of this. If such project come up from places like UET taxila, we should be happy and pat these students in the back.

I have great respect for them to have built an aeroplane. I certainly think its a great feat for a couple of students in a Pak university. I have seen UET and I know even if they had made a model airplane it would be an achievement.

Its their claim to build a fighter aircraft next which I found even more remarkable. And then khan_sahib's post which seems to suggest thats its not a biggie anyway and then PKC's post where he was pontifying without understanding what am I saying, which really made me smile.

Come on yar, if we can make nuclear weapons and make a new for ourselves in the world, what are fighter planes? I for one believe in the raw talent that resides within the country. Besides, we should be encouraging these young students, dont you think?

wohooo :jhanda:
i am working on my plane too :k:

Can I be your test pilot?
