ISLAMABAD: The only Pakistani student at India’s Pondicherry University was severely beaten up early Thursday, Express News reported.
Ali Hasan Raza – a 24-year-old international relations student – was sleeping in his hostel room when three unidentified men entered his room and attacked him with steel rods.
The attackers left when nearby students arrived to rescue him.
With injuries on his head, neck and back, Ali has now been shifted to New Delhi.
According to Times of India (TOI), Ali underwent treatment at Puducherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) after the attack.
While speaking to Express News, Ali’s father Ahmed Raza said his son was in better condition and that this was the first incident of such kind during Ali’s two-year stay in India.
Ahmed said Ali was due to return to Pakistan in a few days as he had finished his study programme.
The TOI report stated that the Students Federation of India (SFI) has asked the university to take all measures to identify the attackers and initiate stringent inquiry against them.
“The university should conduct a flawless probe into the matter and nab the culprits. The safety of students must be ensured. We call on the whole student community of Puducherry to condemn the violence and protest against the security lapse in the university,” SFI secretary A Anand was quoted as saying in the TOI report.
Anand further added that many students had complained that a few groups of students had been assaulting innocent students on the campus.

just heard ali talking to media , he is doing great and it has nothing to do wth religion or being Pakistani, the university officals and fellow students are helping a lot. police is working on it why and who did this? wahn bhi na maloom afrad k khilaff FIR katwai gai ha.

Puducherry is relatively moderate state, people of this state does not have hatred for Pakistan as it is in Mumbai or other parts... I hope this is some girl friend or simple college rivalry thing and not the "beginning of celebration" of Modi Sarkar!!!!

Good to see all the excuses being made.
If an Indian was beaten up in a Pakistani university, you lot would have said all Pakistanis are intolerant bigots. I love it when you can show compassion and tolerance for others but not your own people.

He went to India because he was doing post graduate work on **South Asian **studies.
His presence probably was related to doing some sort of research there.
It seems unlikely that this incident had nothing to do with his nationality. Just because there are many good Indians helping him out there, it does not mean that there is no one with ill will towards Pakistan or him.
Majority of Pakistanis do not condone terrorism but it happens all the time due to a very small minority. Same can apply to India. There might be some Hindu extremist who did it.

Let me share this experience. I've a ton of indian friends being in the same profession as mine (IT), and a lot of them are there on my FB friends list. All of them seemed pretty nice despite being religious but I noticed as soon as this election campaign started, there was a surge of shared videos/comments about muslims and pakistanis and you can imagine what would that be. It seemed they just came out of their caves. I literally had to remove them from my feed. Thats actually saddening wut this "junoon" can turn a normal person into.
