Pakistani Student Associations- PSA

When I was an undergrad at NYU, there were no Pakistani association or club. During my days at business school at Columbia, there was a PSA. Unfortunately by the time I was doing the MBA I had very little time for things like those.

So, I was wondering if any PSA members past or present, shed some light on these campus based organizations? In general were they are worthwhile experience? Would love to hear some views.

We have a PSA here at michigan, and its been doing great!!! We organized and are holding a Junoon concert on the 15th... The indian body here is 5 times bigger than us, but the best they have done so far is held a couple of stupid dance parties, and this move really surprised them.

The only problem we have in the PSA is that most of us are usually hot headed and we end up fighting in our conferences...

That sounds great!! I mean thats a huge event hosting Junoon. Haha whats with the Indian dance parties?? Don't they realize that thet can't dance!

Yeh I can see that with all Pakistanis. I think that we just bring wayyy to much drama to the forefront.

Thanks for the insights and good luck with the concert!!

The PSAs are as useful and fun as the leader and its members make them. It is always pretty good to be on PSA listservs, since it keeps you informed of events and gives you a way to meet more people in the community.

It would be a good idea to post some PSA sites here...

Ours isnt 1/16th as good as the one u just posted, so I will wait for yours first

I have my undergrad from Rutgers U. in NJ and I was PSA’s secretary during one particular year. I graduated in '95 so this must’ve been in hmmmm…'93? I’m guessing. Anyhow, the experience was cool. We were very active and organized several fashion shows, eid shows, melas, etc. I recall the long hours of rehearsals…these were fun since we all took great pains to ensure that all the shows went smootly. What brought our reputation down was constant rumors, at the time, of certain on-campus PSA members who were constantly boogying and drinking 24/7. After that, the PSA was never the same. It still exists though but it’s not as organized or active as it was in my day. MY DAY…makes me sound ancient, no?!

Now at Monmouth U., where I’m currently doing my MBA, there is no PSA as there is a very small Pakistani population. Pakistani students at both the undergrad and grad levels are practically non-existent here, sad to say.

I posted something right? and it has links to several other major PSAs.

I know of PSAs of less then 15 people and they are active enough to make it worthwile. Its all a matter of how much people care to do something.

Hmcq, thanks for the suggestion. Since I’m a part-time grad student though (and work full-time), I am restricted by time to join or organize at this point any on-campus organizations but I actually have already recommended the idea to a few fellow Pakistani students there. Maybe they’ll start the Monmouth U. chapter of PSA insh’allah, sometime soon.

Glad to see a conversation going!

I’ll do my part

Although never joined it, was surprised to find a few friends on their Alumni list.
