Pakistani soldier 'tortured to death'

Pakistan has accused India of torturing and killing one its border guards earlier this week in an incident along their border.

Government spokesman General Rashid Qureshi said the soldier was captured after straying into no-man’s land.

Journalists in Islamabad were shown a video of a body that had been mutilated, and were told that the autopsy showed signs of torture.

General Qureshi said the soldier was then shot dead at point-blank range.

The row came as EU leaders issued a fresh appeal to both countries to do more to defuse tensions between them, which have led to a million or so men being deployed along the border.

Torture allegation

The Pakistanis named the soldier as Corporal Maqsood.

They said he had gone into no-man’s land to retrieve some camels.

“It is evident from the condition of the mutilated body that the deceased was subjected to intense torture by burning his skin with cigarette butts, shooting him in the leg and physical beating before he was killed,” said General Qureshi.

He warned that such incidents could “snowball” as it could prove difficult to control the response of the soldiers.

Indian denial

India has denied the torture allegation, saying it is “totally incorrect”.

A defence ministry spokesman said the Pakistani soldier had been killed in an exchange of fire after crossing the border in order to infiltrate Indian territory.

The Indian spokesman said that one of their officers had also been killed in the exchange of fire.

The incident was said to have taken place three days ago along the border between Pakistan’s Punjab proprovince and the Indian state of Rajasthan.

The body of the dead Pakistani soldier was handed back the next day. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/south_asia/newsid_2059000/2059919.stm

Hmmm india having a death wish or something after humiliation at kargil they wish to kill muslims while they are tied down with no weapons but this is typical behaviour of cowards!

They will pay for this

Indians are cowards!

Not that I support this act of Indian Army, but this should remind you of something :-

“A tale of barbarism by the pakistani army in Kargil unfolded with the handing over of the bodies of six Indian soldiers in a disfigured and mutilated condition, some even without their vital parts. The bodies of the six soldiers were handed over by the pakistani army at post No. 43 near Kargil. The eyes of some of the soldiers had been gouged out, and their ears, nose and genitals chopped off. An army spokesman recalled that in the 1971 war, the Indian Army had captured over 95,000 Pakistani soldiers in the eastern sector who were handed back to islamabad unharmed”

A tale of barbarism by the Indian army in Kargil. For full story go to the following link.

Confessions of a war reporter

During the Kargil War, Barkha Dutt’s was a familiar face on the television screen, bringing live action on the Star News channel. But she was not telling us the complete story. Now she does.

I had to look three times to make sure I was seeing right. Balanced on one knee, in a tiny alley behind the army’s administrative offices, I was peering through a hole in a corrugated tin sheet. At first glance, all I could see were some leaves. I looked harder and amidst all the green, there was a hint of black—it looked like a moustache. “Look again,” said the army colonel, in a tone that betrayed suppressed excitement. This time, I finally saw.
It was a head, the disembodied face of a slain soldier nailed onto a tree.

Well, if you knew that you should have posted the BBC links...

I also agree with you, torturing a soldier is wrong, be it any army... Soldiers are just doing their duty, be it Pakistanis or Indians...

[This message has been edited by Spock (edited June 22, 2002).]

our sympathies should always go to people
who are victims of barbarism regardless
of religen nationality or race.
we should not take sides .

During Kargil, I remember Capt. Sourabh Kalia who was sent back piece by piece by the Pak sol.. oops Mujahideen

You put men with guns at the border and ask them to fight, sometimes people lose control.

If Indian side did it, then I hope the commander gets demoted and the guys who did it dismissed.

Barbarism is wrong.

I can understand how Pakistanis feel, because I felt the same way during 1999.

My condolences to the slain soldier's kin.

this is absurd. absolutely absurd. i cant believe one of the worlds largest military regimes is crying over the death of ONE lance naik

i'd MUCh rather die at the hands of my enemy than be bent over and politically sodomized for my salvation aka FAROOQ ABDULLAH

Better to die 1000 times in glory than live without honor-Louis VI

One thing I dont understand, from both sides (i.e. India and Pak)...

When they capture soldiers, torture them and kill them, why do are they so nice as to return the bodies... Pakistan got the body back, and this preempted them to make some noise in the media, which India could have prevented by not returning the body... Beats me...

Why cry wolf when the same has been done by your great Paki army during the Kargil misadvernture and also every day your great butchers are killing point blank in Kashmir.

Francis, didnt you do that in Kargil too?

Here is a HRW report on how the sewer cockroaches in uniform are killing innocent civilians and raping. http://www.hrw.org/reports/1999/kashmir/executions.htm http://www.hrw.org/reports/1999/kashmir/doda.htm#P187_42784

Here is the civilized behaviour of the same cockroaches in Kargil http://www.himalmag.com/june2001/perspective.html

Talwar jee, no one is going to get demoted for anything because they denied all charges.
Still, this is sick... They should atleast have an impartial investigation.

Who you calloing roaches.. Your filthy rats have been raping and murdering innocents for years.. I should think a few dead Indian rats is a good thing…
Kargil was the best thing that ever happened..I would care for your rats if they were just innocent, but the fact is that they are occupying Kashmir and are guilty of murdering hundreds of people..
The only good Indian RAT is a dead one

now with due respect to the dead,A question comes to my mind, what the hell he was doing in no-mans land during the time when the armies r on high alert and that too absolutely alone.why his seniors allowed him to stray in no-mans land(maybe coz of lack of dicipline in pak army)or was he on sucide mission!i have heard that he was trying to retrieve his camel, now if this is true then i suppose PA cant control their animals too.risking owns life for a runaway camel is stupidity.

..I would care for your rats if they were just innocent, but the fact is that they are occupying Kashmir and are guilty of murdering hundreds of people..

adnan, suppose ur claim is true(that indian army is killing ur kashmiri muslim brothers),then pakistani army is army of biggest cowards, coz they cant save their brothers in kashmir ,if they r so brave and able then they should free their so called kashmiri brothers from indian clutches, what stops them!now wont u save ur brother with ur whole might if somebody attacks him!

pakistani soldiers tortured indian soldiers during kargil war therefore dont be surprised if such things happen.

secondly,if u justify the mutilation and killing of indian soldiers and call them RATS then no indian will regret the
smashing of few pakistani COCKROACHES under indian boots.

Any Pakistani army rat or terrorist crossing into Indian territory deserves what he gets.
