Re: pakistani society and gold
Yeah a lot of people don't seem to care anymore.
Not going to lie though.........I love gold or rather any form of jewelry really, and it saddens me a tad bit that the 'not wearing gold' trend is in

Re: pakistani society and gold
I see it as a good investment. I don't work so I see this as something that's just mine. I don't ever wear it though but I prefer to keep it. Never know when I will need it. It's a good idea to sell it if you think you are paying zakat and never using the jewelry. I don't mind paying zakat since I don't have a whole lot of jewelry.
I never wear gold, but it is an investment. In today's age, not a lot of girls wear it (where I am anyways), BUT, it's still valued, and it's still given when girls get married
IMO an investment is good if the price you pay for it is fair to low. Gold has rocketed from ~$250/ounce to $1750/ounce since ~ 2003. That is a 7x return or 600% in 9 years.
So has the easy money been made? Yes. Is it still a good investment? Your guess as good as mine. Can one find better investments at current prices? Probably yes.
Sorry to barge in. Saw gold in the title. I will leave now.
Trend has changed. Save it as an investment.
My parents gave me a lots of gold jewellery... But I don't wear anything..... I think it looks really weird to wear a whole set of bangles nowadays or a (big) set... Sometimes small earrings... Even on occassions...I really regret my big sets on my weddingdays...fazoel....
Re: pakistani society and gold
Lot of people don't, but a few aunties still care about it. That's too when you are going to a function/wedding etc and an aunty would come to you and say "aww your necklace is so beautiful and you HAVE to say "yes! ammi gee (mom in law) got me this on so and so event..."
I would say it only depends on your family (parent's/ parents in law's) perspective about it. It they don't care then nobody will say a single word but if they are conscious about it then you are definitely going to be asked/noticed if you are wearing gold or not.

Re: pakistani society and gold
Do I need to wear sonay ki chooriyan, rings and chains to fit in or the trend has changed and women don't care about this stuff anymore?
No you dont, mines is sitting useless in some bags, I have to get a bank locker soon. plus my choorian are too small for me, it makes my hands red if I put it on.
After marriage, I have not worn my gold that much, I am more into silver, crystals, 14 k gold, or gems. I dont like yellow gold too much.
I wish I can sell mines, but my husband doesnt want me too, so keeping it for my daugthers, I do pay zakat each year for it.
