firstly, when you’ll continue to have likes of vina malik and her supporters in the ranks of “artists” i will also call them 2 numbers

2ndly it depends on what you call arts. a writer for me is not be an artist, similarly a poet… they are thinkers of the society. over all, today most of our so called artists are from music, dance, film, drama side… and how if you know how these industries work i dont think when people call them 2 number they do anything wrong.

on the other hand, artists like khattat, kaashi kar etc are not really given any significance in todays “artist” lobbies, where “Dancing” and “singing” is a must have “talent” to be an artist.

But do our writers get same respect as writers in west?

There are good people in all fields and by referring to likes of Veena Malik, we can’t generalise all people as ‘2 number’. I think society is becoming somewhat intolerant towards performing art. There is no harm in promoting performing arts, if they don’t break generally accepted norms of society. A stage show full of vulgar mujra songs should be condemned, but a drama portraying some serious message should not be looked down upon.

I do agree that artists who are linked with cottage industry also don’t get their due appreciation in society and are exploited by middle-manship.
