I like their voices, they are distinct and raw, very cool sounding :k:
why don’t they get formal training?
Re: Pakistani Singers
i assume you are talking about atif aslam.........there are trained ones...but few n far between.....:D
Re: Pakistani Singers
yes him too, i looooooove his voice. but only when it’s heard in the final cut of the song. i heard him live and it was a bit hard to listen to b/c i did take formal singing lessons as a child so my ears are really sensitive to all those out of tune high notes.
but ali zafar too. like in this song. from 2:36 to 3:09 it’s hard to listen to. the untrained part is so obvious there. but his voice is sooo hot!
from the hindi movie “jhoom”(2011)
Re: Pakistani Singers
Because trained singers aren't always the best. We do have our fair share of trained singers, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Shafqat Amanat Ali are just a few examples. But music isn't all about singing, the best music to come out of Pakistan was Vital Signs and Junoon, both had untrained, unorthodox singers.
Re: Pakistani Singers
I think the best voice to ever come out of the subcontinent has been Kishore Kumar, and he was untrained too. IMO its not so much the training but the feel/texture of the voice that makes it sound good.
Re: Pakistani Singers
^has he ever gone out of tune in any of his songs though?
i absolutely love that jhoom song but every time i get to that segment of the song…i was not criticizing the singers :hinna:
b/c i love most of RFAK songs but you can tell that his voice and songs rarely go out of tune…very soothing voice
Re: Pakistani Singers
i thought ali zafar had training?
umhm its because our culture still finds singing odd? I know my family would be very offended if we had a singer in making
Re: Pakistani Singers
That particular song has many things wrong, not just the section which is talked about.
In the beginning, the guitar or string instrument is not tuned right.
Most of Pakistani commercial songs have not properly tuned instruments.
Tabla has high pitch and he could not get his scale right. He took breath when it was not supposed to in the section which is in question.
Overall, the song is B minus grade.
Even though Qawwals do not have good voice but their singing in tune (sur) and matching instruments still sound good.
So its not just the voice. It is how the song is sung which is more important. Reshman song Lambi Judai has no good voice but she sang it well at high scale and music/instruments were properly used. So one does not get headache. ![]()
Re: Pakistani Singers
Lol, really? It's his music, he can tune his guitar whichever way he likes. There is no right or wrong.
but ali zafar too. like in this song. from 2:36 to 3:09 it's hard to listen to. the untrained part is so obvious there. but his voice is sooo hot!
I can see where you're coming from, but it also sounds like he's trying out that pitch intentionally.

Yes there is something right or wrong in music. Something which matches with the overall song is right. Besides every instrument should be tuned, regardless what tune it is played on.
Commercial music is for others to listen to, so one cannot say I will do whatever I want.
P.S. Tuned instrument means it makes one note at a time when played or stirred. Not one and half or two noted. Otherwise it will clash with other instruments.
Those who understand music know this. Unfortunately many musicians do not pay attention but a lot do.
Re: Pakistani Singers
i wonder who the indian girl is in the video ![]()
anyways the song “jhoom” was shot in india and the music video director is indian so i figured it was from an indian movie but i guess it is just a music video by ali zafar.
Re: Pakistani Singers
And that statement alone shows you lack even the most basic understanding of music terminology. Why oh why do you do it Diwana
Re: Pakistani Singers
That IS ‘tuning’ sarab! Basically adjusting the pitch of the sound.
In tuning the instrument one has to make sure ONE CRISP NOTE is played when ONE KEY is pressed or ONE string is stirred.
Also, when one learns how to sing and tunes the voice, one has to make sure one makes sound exactly as ONE note of the instrument at a time.
The person has to adjust and train the voice to match the note/pitch at a time.
You must have heard people doing Aaaaa,… Aaaaaa.
First Aaaaa may be harmonious to C (Saa) and second one to C# (Re) and so forth.
Now if played in a song, then combination of notes can be played. When singer sings, singer then can change pitch and scale periodically to make a song which sounds good to ears.
Re: Pakistani Singers
where i come from, they have a saying. when you slip and fall in the mud, you pretend your original intention was to wallow in mud. you seem to do this every third post, diwanay..
Re: Pakistani Singers
I dont know many pakistani singers are trained...nevertheless i like most of them.
and since we are talking about trained and untrained singers then i have two names in mind who have absolutely melodious voice (just love these two)
trained singer= sajjad ali
not trained= abrar ul haq (i am pretty sure he didnot get any training for the singing..he might have later on)
Re: Pakistani Singers
from the hindi movie "jhoom"(2011)
it not from a bollywood movie. its from ali's new album called jhoom. :)
i think yash raj films made you say that. yash raj music is just one of the labels for the album just like alif record is another label for the album from pakistan. :)
Re: Pakistani Singers
Should I take this as a complement? ![]()
You purposefully wrote diwanay. LOL No biggie. Shows your deep frustration. ![]()
Great to see Queer following me as “Zakham Khourda” and defeated so many times!
Thanks for making my day even better. ![]()
Queer dude, no matter how old are you as the member, you should know not to follow other members, … and “drop in” without even knowing what was exactly being discussed.
Where I come from, they say regardless anyone tries to sway you from saying the TRUTH, you defend and support truth and nothing but truth.
Re: Pakistani Singers
Damn me - why did I play that song - it left me perplexed - Now I dont know whether I should give out ere or feel sympathy towards Ali zafar for trying to pull something what perhaps he is unable to..
Piece of Advice for you Mr Ali zafar - There was only one Kishor kumar in this world and he's been fecking long gone !

New low Diwana :(
I'm not going to stir you from your delusions.
Other gupshuppers who want to know the universally recognised definitions of music terms and not Diwanas home-made definitions should consult someone that can actually read music, or check a basic book.
Re: Pakistani Singers
Great. The basic books will have same info as I gave. ![]()
