I frequently travel to both these cities and have wanted to sample “authentic” Pakistani cuisine.
Any recommendations from Guppies who know these cities? Do they have any signature dishes I should try?
Thanks in advance!

In Chicago there is Devon Street and I have heard a lot about Sabri Nihari House, though I've never been there. Don't know about Detroit though.
I haven't really had good Pakistani food in North America. In my experience they tend to put in too much "garam massaala". The food gets much better in Britain I think.

well u r sayin that becuase u never been to devon street...devon street is arguably the largest indo-pak market in whole north amrica. i been to many markets in NY, houston, dallas, and toronto and devon is b y far larger than all of those indo-pak markets. devon will provide u all those ingridients that you miss being a des in america. it is almost a 2 mile long strip (almost 20 blocks) with only desi shops on both sides of the road. A paki will think he is back in lahore in anarkali and an indian might find himslef back in delhi or madras. the atmosphere is so desi with people standing outside shops eating panns, guys playing loud music in cars, people crossing the road all over the places and every other block a group of desi people sitting on benches having a conversation. Desi music shops, video shops, urdu book stores, hindi book shops, islamic stores, desi groceries, desi dresses, shalwar qameez, amir adnan suits, desi sweet houses and tons of desi restaurants all on devon.
for food, sabri nehari is a great place. try its nehari. it is really good with grama garma nann. Usmania restaurant is all good especially its Matka ghost is really good. i lived in chicago for almost 5 years before moving to phoenix and still miss devon street all the times.....
You’ll find great Pakistani food in:
Sabri Nehari
The Sonargaon (must visit!!)
Usmania
Lal Qila
^^ Although there are many good restaurants I think these are the top ones. You will like almost everything you order from them.:k: Let me know if you want the addresses.
Those were for cheekago…now come to Detroit…
actually very few Pakistani or Indian restaurent… majority are Arabs…so in DeerBorn area … at Warren Ave… you will finf Al-Ameer, Kabaish, Cederland etc…
I go to Cederland…and I order Ceder plate…which covers every thing with Fatoosh and Hammuss…:k:
Thank you all very much! I look forward to my next peregrinations to Chicago so I can make the rounds! Detroit, too! ![]()

Also kababish on devon has pretty good food even when they don't have much of a space to sit comfatbly and eat but you can always carry it out.i am not really in favor of sabri nihari's food however their customer service is really good..:)
Sabri Nihari is the bomb! We live about 2 hours away from Chicago, and there is a pact amongst us students, that whoever goes to Chicago has to bring back Nihari/Makhni for everyone or else be banished from the Pakistani society.

Sonargaon is good but not a must. Sabri is #1 !
