Pakistan’s president has ordered the establishment of a six-member committee to restore security in the port city of Karachi where violence has been raging on, Press TV reports.

Asif Ali Zardari also ordered a high level probe into the killings in the city and said that the menace of lawlessness and targeted killings in Karachi could be eradicated only if the political parties share efforts.

“If the three political parties – the PPP, MQM and ANP – join hands in Karachi, there is no reason why we cannot confront and defeat the menace of lawlessness and targeted killings in the metropolis,” he said during a meeting with the leaders of the political parties in the city on Monday.

In the latest wave of violence, unknown gunmen killed five people in Orangi, Ayub Goth, Landhi and other areas in Karachi.

Armed men shot dead a man identified as Zulfiqar in the New Karachi area. Separately, a man, identified as Naseem Khan, was killed near the Orangi area. In another incident, 45-year-old Syed Badshah and 25-year-old Lal Jan were shot dead after gunmen opened fire on them at Ayub Goth in New Karachi.

Dozens of people have been killed in separate incidents of violence in Karachi in the past few days.

According to local media, over 35,000 people have lost their lives in bombings and other terrorist attacks across Pakistan since 2001, when the country entered an alliance with the US on the so-called ‘war on terrorism’.

Thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.

I never get why do they form commitees and what benefits do they get by forming them?

Re: Pakistani president appoints committee to restore Karachi security

What is Pakistani president doing meddling in municipal affairs? Doesn't he have a country to run? Let the Karachi Police handle the situation. Next he will appoint a committee to clean the sewers in Farooqabad.

Re: Pakistani president appoints committee to restore Karachi security

I would like to know the number of committees formed by PPP govt in last 4 years! :)
