Re: Pakistani police officer axes man to death over blasphemy
I am all for regularization of Imams of mosques. Every tom dick and henry becomes Imam now and without having any knowledge of Islam advises people of the area on different religious issues. In small villages and towns, Imam of the masjid is like next to Farishta and people blindly follow them. Govt has to do something to regulate the Imams.
and for wrong accusations, we need to modify the law ASAP. Wrong accuser should get life in prison
but again all this require WILL. Govt and politicians have no will either. Mumtaz Qadri has been sentenced to death. Does anyone has balls to hang him? NO. O bhai Politicans are such a chicken that top leadership of PPP (and other parties) did not even go to funeral of Salman Taseer.
People spend 1 year in madrasa and then name themselves Mufti.
Re: Pakistani police officer axes man to death over blasphemy
I also think its the strong urge of taking law in hands and do it our own way thats causing so much trouble and lawlessness. For example, 2-3 weeks back in karachi 7 robbers were killed by the hand of furious mob in three different incidents. Its just they were caught robbing and before anybody could do anything, the mob ran over them and beat the hell out of them that they eventually died.
In the blasphemy case, its pretty much the same. The mob or the indivduals think something terrible has happened, decide to become prosecutor, judge and then the punisher themselves and finish it their own way.
One way to come out of this situation is to restore their confidence on rule of law by apprehending the criminals and punishing them thru law enforcement. Second is by regulating the clerics who can make sure that people calm down in any situation and not try to make (in)justice on their own.

پاکستان بدنام رہے گا
thats how u can fix it.
Re: Pakistani police officer axes man to death over blasphemy
One Question:
Do we still have prime time ulama on TV in Pakistan?
Do they have clear stance on such killing ?
Or they tend to not talk about it.
Re: Pakistani police officer axes man to death over blasphemy
tomorrow after juma momaneen can share which ulimas condemnes the killings.
Re: Pakistani police officer axes man to death over blasphemy
Agreed.. but how? You cannot force people to do that but the only way out I see is to crush religious fanatic and create a massive movement to create awareness that we all are supposed to respect human, regardless of religion, race or color which is the actual teaching of Islam.
Second, time after time such events prove there is no rule of law at all. And without it just forget about anything else
Hate to say this, but no masjid/imam-bargah should be allowed to preach hate, incite against any sect in anyway (reason I said "Hate to say..." because it would curb 'freedom of speech').... all the Friday sermons need to be pre-approved by government, if anyone does not follow the rule then ban him/punish him... like Saudi Arabia style (sigh). Govt then needs to promote only sermons which encourage harmony among sects/inter-faith etc.
Re: Pakistani police officer axes man to death over blasphemy
Even if Pakistan was 100% literate and minorities were not being attacked, this law is still WRONG.
What kind of GOD needs its creation (mortal human beings) to protect its good image and reputation? Must be a really insecure GOD.
Not to talk of a death penalty punishment for even a mere innuendo/insinuation.
Re: Pakistani police officer axes man to death over blasphemy
I don't think anyone can even think of blasphemy against the holy prophet (pbuh). people know very well what happens in that case So blasphemy cases are mostly created to settle personal scores. No love of prophet is involved.

It seems as if now Shias are being booked for blasphemy.

Re: Pakistani police officer axes man to death over blasphemy
Like i said before..do not expect for a behavioral change or people to act responsibly especially in a society where illiteracy is still >80%..people will continue to misuse the law.
We need to get rid of the law....
This, though Taseer's entire episode shows its extremely hard. When upholders of the law are behaving like animals then its no wonder the entire justice is in the gutter.

The question from my side is not whether this law is good or not, I agree its not a good law to have, the question is whether its this law which is "allowing" people to commit such excesses. My argument is that law is definitely trash, but it is the mentality of people which is making them commit such crimes, the law is just a punching bag / a distraction.
