As if the boys are any less 'liberal' (before marriage anyway)..
Hear hear I hear what your saying but for the record I married a most conservative woman, who is born and bred in the UK and while many look down on such a thing from back home they dare not say it to my face.
I think the hypocracy is in some misguided individuals not the Pakistani people as a whole… stop putting everyone in one blanket for crying out loud.
Hypocrisy is a part of human nature. We all make contradictions between what we say and do....sometimes unintentionally (we may not be aware of it), sometimes intentionally....some are more hypocritical than others. Can I be a hypocrite? Sure. I admit it. I've caught myself making contradictions sometimes. It's not confined to a particular race.
Also, it would give the thread a more clear direction if you explained what happened between you and your fiance and his mom. It could provide a more constructive purpose to the the discussion.
A worryingly lot of the time I think the answer to that is yes.
Though I think you are obviously generalising I do feel your pain
Once in Pak some of my relatives were discussing some weird backward tradition that they believed to have stemmed from Islam. I spoke out against it immediately to which a lady turned and asked me if there was even any concept of Islam in the Uk, thus rendering my points completely invalid.
I don’t think our society is going to change anytime soon. I used to have hope and make an effort to help our society progress, but now I don’t care much and just do my own thing. At the end of the day, we just have to answer to Allah (swt) so just do good, and forget/forgive what people say/do towards you.

I cant find any of those examples in my family. who ever comes from uk, usa we just treat them with respect and dont make assumptions about them.
but i have been a victim of such attitude when i came to uk.
ek gandi machli pooray talaab ko ganda karti hai jiski badolat baqi machliyaan bhi gandi ho jati hain.
By reading OP and general comments, can i say that ABCDs generally think that their relatives in Pakistan are naive and they don't know anything about modern values ( whatever they are) and normally think that whatever they know is end of the world and if anyone have different point of view ( by anyone i mean a guy/girl from residing / born and brought up in Pakistan) then it is wrong...
Tut tut. Using liberal like it's a dirty word. I understand your frustration though. Unfortunately, I have yet to meet a Pakistani girl irl who isn't borderline stealth jihad. (I don't get out enough I suppose)
