Pakistani passport processing time when applying from the US

I applied for a new one yesterday and they said I’d get it in 6-7 weeks. Has anyone gotten their Pakistani passport renewed recently? How long did it take for them to send you the new passport? Where did you apply?

They say that they are now sending all of the new passports to islamabad to be printed. That seems like a good estimate. The only thing is that you have to keep on top of them since they are very bad with loosing passports. My brother in law had to renew his passport here in Houston.

I got mine in around 2 weeks even though I didn't pay for urgent service. I'd been busy so didn't get a chance to update this thread. As for them loosing the passport, I had the option of picking up the passport myself or giving them a self-addressed, prepaid, certified mailing envelope. Initially, I wanted to pick it up myself fearing the passport would get lost in the mail but the employees at the consulate said they preferred the envelopes since it's easy to misplace passports when they don't get picked up right away.

Not a bad experience overall and it's cheaper than getting a visa. As the website says:

  • The validity of visa cannot outrun the validity of passport on which it is affixed.
  • A long-term visa will become invalid if not used within 6 months of its issuance.
  • Per application Visa fees on US passport is US $ 192.00 for Visit Visa

My passport will stay valid for the next 10 years and it cost me $83(Application fee) + $10(USPS certified, prepaid, self-addressed return envelope) = $93. I don't know the rates for the NICOP so can't say if that would've been less expensive. Besides, a NIC that reads in English wouldn't feel the same (Nakhray).

My first Pakistani passport(the one before this) took longer though. I was in Pakistan back then and in no hurry to travel so it didn't bother me that much. The Houston Consulate's webpage says, "MRP will be issued to dual nationals aged between 18-59 after clearance from Pakistan." It took them 6 weeks, after I applied, to contact me and setup a meeting. I think it was the month of Ramadan and I was asked to come to some government office in Saddar, Karachi. I forgot the department the guy was from but it was an easy interview. Once done, he asked me to easy load Rs 100 to his number and I did. Not an outrageous bribe if you ask me. It took 5 more weeks before I had the passport in my hand. At total of 12 weeks approximately.
