Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

Yeah like that is going to happen.

Several Muslim parties and a Christian group held rallies on Sunday to protest against a movie released in America.

Around 10,000 people participated in the main rally organised on The Mall by the Tehreek Hurmat-i-Rasool (THR). The participants marched from Nila Gumbad to Masjid-i-Shuhada on The Mall. Despite a ban on rallies on The Mall, the road remained blocked for vehicular traffic from noon to 6pm.

The rally was addressed by Jamatud Dawa chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, THR head Ameer Hamza, JD leader Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki, Pakistan Muslim League (Zia) head Ijazul Haq, Jamaat Ulema Islam-Sami (JUI-S) leader Asim Makhdoom and Jamaat Ahle Hadith ameer Hafiz Abdul Ghaffar Ropari.

One of the participants of the rally, Abdullah Ismail, passed away after he was taken to Mayo Hospital. Witnesses said he had complained of feeling unwell from the smoke from US flags burnt at the rally.

Hafiz Saeed alleged that the film, Innocence of Muslims, had been produced with the backing of US establishment. He said the director, the producer and all those involved in the production and release of the movie must be hanged publicly. “The US must make a law against blasphemy – or we will not let the US consulates in Pakistan function,” he said.

He said a resolution condemning the movie in the parliament was not enough. Instead, President Asif Ali Zardari must announce jihad against countries like the US that supported attacks on Islam. The Organisation of Islamic Countries Conference should announce a boycott of US goods. Ijazul Haq, the PML-Z chief, said the people had shown their loyalty to Islam. He said the government leader’s silence was shameful. He said no one had dared commit blasphemy during his father Ziaul Haq’s rule.

Shabab-i-Milli, the youth wing of the Jamaat-i-Islami, also held a rally near Punjab University’s new campus.

Speaking to the gathering, Jamaat-i-Islami Ameer Munawar Hasan said the film had been produced by a Zionist with US support.
He said, “If the US claims to be a civilised nation, why does it stoop to insult other religions and civilisations?”

JI general secretary Liaqat Baloch said the US stooges ruling the Muslim world were on the run now. They had met a humiliating fate in Tunisia, Egypt and Turkey. He said Pakistan was on the threshold of a revolution.
A small protest rally against the film was also taken out by a group of Christian from Model Colony, Gulberg. The rally concluded at Seven Up Chowk having marched through Mecca Colony.

Ultimatum to US:

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

Masallah, with people like the ones in the pic and their leaders like Hafiz Saeed, who needs enemies?

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

This is pathetic.

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

Maybe its time to handover Hafiz Saeed to India for terrorism. It will be good will gesture to India toward peace & at the same time we can get rid of this piece of turd.

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

Lose consulate.
Anyone living in Arabia here? can you tell me if they are having same reaction as pak sar zameen.

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

True. But we sure do need frenemies.

Preferably frenemies like US and our Arab friends.

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

Haha, this loser never disappoints in providing comedy!

Always states the obvious - the obvious lies. Ijazul Haq should be on TV more often. Sadly, he has joined the company of the religious zealots and prefers to make these sad little token appearances in rallies. But a few years back he was a regular on political talk shows, and provided more entertainment than Sheikh Rashid.

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

Does Pakistan have any laws that make it a crime to commit blasphemy against other religions? I realize that Muslims will never intentionally commit blasphemy against Judaism and Christianity, because Hazrat Moosa AS, and Hazrat Isa AS are equally revered by Muslims as messengers of Allah SWT. But is there any law that bans blasphemy against these religions? How about against other religions, like Hinduism/Budhaism?

Until Pakistan has such laws in place, Im not sure we have a right to ask western countries to enact such laws in favor of Islam.

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

is there any example of muslims blasphemy against Hinduism/Budhaism?

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

Don't we Muslims ridicule Hindu religion any/everytime anyways?

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

Many. There are several instances of Budha statues being demolished by militants in KPK. Lots of hindu temples have been demolished as well, under different guises.

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

Why would you even make this post without actually looking up the text of Pakistan's blasphemy laws?

Relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code:

[quote]
295. Injuring or defiling place of worship, with Intent to insult the religion of any class:
Whoever destroys, damages or defiles any place of worship, or any object held sacred by any class of persons with the intention of thereby insulting the religion of any class of persons or with the knowledge that any class of persons is likely to consider such destruction damage or defilement as an insult to their religion. shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

295-A. Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting Its religion or religious beliefs:
Whoever, with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the 'religious feelings of any class of the citizens of Pakistan, by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representations insults the religion or the religious beliefs of that class, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, or with fine, or with both.

  1. Uttering words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings: Whoever, with the deliberate intention of wounding the religious feelings of any person, utters any word or makes any sound in the hearing of that person or makes any gesture in the sight of that person or places any object in the sight of that person, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year or with fine, or with both. [/quote]

The blasphemy laws are worded in such a way that a Muslim who makes insulting remarks about hinduism is committing blasphemy. The problem is not a lack of laws, it's a lack of will to prosecute Muslim who commit blasphemy against other religions.

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

we dont own millitants. In my personal opinon if Muslims own a country and don’t want such temple there in the country they can remove those temples without humiliating.

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

Yes I did not read the text of the law. But my point remains the same. Simply replace 'laws' with 'imposition/enforcement of laws'. The scenario remains the same. Budha statues get blown up by muslims, and not a peep, but a mentally retarded underage christian girl is found with burned pages of god knows what, and she is thrown into jail for blasphemy.

"*Until Pakistan universally enforces such laws that are already in place, Im not sure we have a right to ask western countries to enact/enforce such laws in favor of Islam."*

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

Being a Muslim I believe that Islam is the true and final religion and Islam cannot equate other religions, as other religions are false or transformed in order fulfill ultra modern needs and enjoyed every kind of luxury.

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

That should be done through proper methods, we are not living in Prophet Mohammad PBUH's time anymore.

Yes, but that does not mean we can ridicule others.

Re: Pakistani Muslim Parties tell USA, ‘Criminalise blasphemy or lose consulate’

So that means you have right to attack other people’s religious beliefs (like Buddhas of Bamiyan), but if someone question your faith they deserve a death?

Man accused of blasphemy after refusing to join anti-Islam film protest | DAWN.COM

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani officials say they have opened an investigation into a businessman who has been accused of blasphemy after refusing to join protests over an anti-Islam video and allegedly trying to convince others also not to take part.

Police officer Munir Abbasi says that hundreds of protesters in the city of Hyderabad who rallied against the film that mocks the Holy Prophet (PBUH) demanded the businessman shut his shops in solidarity.

When the businessman refused, one of his tenants said his decision supported the film.

City police chief Fareed Jan said Wednesday the protesters claim the accused insulted the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Jan said there’s no evidence to suggest this happened and said police were pressured by the mob to open the case.

Blasphemy is punishable by life in prison or death in Pakistan.
