The year 2002 has been a truly phenomenal year for Pakistani music, both nationally and internationally. On December 21st, Vital Signs’ poignant hit Dil Dil Pakistan was voted third on the world’s top ten. Needless to say, this is a remarkable achievement for Pakistani music. On December 3rd, Junoon were declared (by BBC) to be “the biggest band in the world”, at the BBC Mega Mela Awards Show 2002 in the UK. A great achievement for Junoon, and hopefully this will help them break into the international music scene. The Pepsi Battle of the Bands brought some great new talent to the Pakistani music scene, and on July 29th, Aaroh were crowned winners after an intense battle with Entity Paradigm. The growth of Indus Music amongst the Pakistani viewers has also been great for the Pakistani music scene, as it led to the emergence of a flurry of talented new musicians like Fuzon, Ahmad Jehanzaib and Noori. This growth of IM also led to the return of some of Pakistan’s most beloved musicians like Dr. Aur Billa with the magnificent single Tum Say Pyaar Hai and Amir Zaki with the thoughtful single People are People. All in all, it was a great year for Pakistani music.
