Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

I start with this one sung by Sketches group. Its from Shah Latif’s Sur ‘Moomal Rano’… A story which have connections from Upper Sindh (Mirpur Mathelo) to Jaisalmir via Omar kot.

The melody is out of this world.

Balochi music is famous for its beats. If you have heard PPP’s song ‘Alle Teer bija’, you can understand what I mean

Here is Abdia Parveen singing famous Balochi folk (Layla o Layla) and Layla Zubairi is in audience :hehe:

Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

Many di mauj vich hasna khedna by Hadika qiyani and Tali de thaly beh k by Nazia Hassan

Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

Javed Akhtar was famous singer from Peshawer who introduced Pashto music all over Pakistan and across the borders by singing Pashto poetry into Urdu and then came the songs like ‘Peshawer se mere liye dandaasa lana’ and ‘tujhko qasam hai meri jaan na aana hath khali’

The music is just soothing and it has flow like river.

Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

yes that Dogari song by Hadiqa and Punjabi song by Nazia Hassan were amazing. I think Nazia didn't know Punjabi, but she sung it very well.

Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

When it comes to energatic music, then no one can beat Punjabi music :hbk:

Here is ‘Balle balle ni tor Punjaban di’

Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

i thought it was siraki........what's dogari?

Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

Dogri is spoken in Jammoo and nothern Punjab. Kiyanis are kashmiris, so it was not a tough job for Hadiqa Kiyani. Taale de thalle beh ke is Punjabi, I think.

Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

Saraiki and melodious are two interchangeable words for me. These Saraiki people are really sureele and this sur , sweetness and melody is part of Saraiki music.. which is simple and captivating.

Ye bhe to achy thy Dana ba dana by shazia khushk and Mor tor tilay rana.I didn't understand the lyrics but they were melodious.

Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

Most of the time, Thari language is titled and introduced as Sindhi. but its something different and this language can’t be understood by Sindhis who don’t live in or near Thar. It got many words from Rajisthani.

The music of desert touches soul irrespective of the fact whether you know the language or not. Tina Sani’s ‘KhaRi neem ke neeche’ is an evidence for that.

Here is a Thari folk song actually sung by ‘Mai Bhagi’, later sung by Muhammad Ali Shehki and Afshan

Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

Yes dana ba dana is basically full of reference to Balochi history. Folk always contains some reference to land. be it is culture, traditions or history.

Mor tho tille is basically dedicated to time when a child start walking. The first step of walking child are compared with Mor ‘peacock’.

Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

Its very sad that such rich cultures and heritage were not interlinked and no attempts were made, just because each unit considered that we are the best compared to others :frowning:

Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

For 'Mor tho tille' translation, wait for Kinzz as it contains reference to so many jewellery items.. I can't translate them

Re: Pakistani Music - regional languages

The fusion of languages do wonders in creating harmony and mutual respect.

Sufi folk merged with contemporary pop / rock music and fusion of two languages made this a classic.
