Nice read... it is due to existance of some of these people in Pakistan and that this country is still alive else Mush like people would have sold it off quite long ago and would have bought a small island to live their rest of the life...
Although i m never PPP supporter but i really am impressed and wish there are more people like these in all the political parties. May Allah bless her infinitely for all her good deeds and honesty.. ameen.

Last time I was in Mailsi (small town in southern Punjab) I saw an 90 yrs old woman who could barely stand working in 48 degree C working on a road where boiling tar and smoke is unbreaable.. Ever since that sight is with me .. when ever someone complains about electricity it falshes again.. prices of commodities have escalated thanks to this economic stability that masses are fighting each day just to survive whereas, few previledged have their wealth multiplies many times.. gap between have and have-nots had widened dramaticaly in last few years.. number of suicides in Pakistan due to economic reasons is rising each day..
On other have we have such leaders as Ch Shujat & Co who have billions of rupees loas wriiten off and still getting more and more loans..

Same here, brought tears in my eyes.
I never supported PPP, I will still not support PPP as I believe that the lady was not given a party ticket because of her own sincerity/honesty rather her husband's affiliation/relation with Bhuttos... I doubt a political party will give ticket to such honest and sincere people, in our politics you have to be a cheater/dacoit/criminal of top class to be able to get a seat. When MQM reached PA, NA everyone was like wow a common man can reach those assemblies but now we know that those were not-so-common-people.
What we need in political parties is people like Saghira Islam, she is one good role-model for an MPA/MNA.

one of my strongest memories is from 1980s standing on the rooftop of my nana's house. saw and old gentleman, must be in his 70's wearing glasses, pushing a cart, it was blistering hot, and he was exhausted so he was not even yelling out his wares..
That to me is the image of dignity of hard work and self respect .. i can never forget that.

Problem is how many these dignified people have benifited from last few years so called economic development.. vast majority of these have not seen their incomes going up but have witnessed basic commodity prices going steeply upwards.. have seen no improvement in social justice, law & order etc.
There may be some who dont like to retire but there are many who have no alternatives.. especially older women..
