Re: pakistani media celeberities to protest at karachi press club against turkish dra
Incidently, those dramas from the 80s are the only dramas that are shown in their academies, because those dramas were class. Current crop of Pakistani dramas are rubbish, revolving around themes copied from indian soaps, ala saas bahu.
Samina Ahmed was on one of the talk shows recently, and when she was asked about why Indian shows are ok for you, but you insist on protesting against this new breed of turkish shows, she responded by saying that 'we tolerated indian shows for a while, but with these new dramas, pani sar sey guzar gaya hai'. So according to her, just 1 turkish drama turned out to be the tipping point, all the while they were 'tolerating' the barrage of indian shows on each channel.
This fight is as much between actors and voice-over artists as it is between Pak and turkish dramas. Our production houses are just being cry babies. They are ok with indian stuff, will dance to indian songs in their dramas, morning shows, and will gladly go over to act in a c grade indian movie if asked, but they are not OK with a turkish drama.
As for the cultural aspect they cite so frequently, our own Paksitani dramas have shown what borders on filth at times. Bhabi dewar affairs, out-of-wedlock children, saali behnoi affairs are common place in our dramas. This is certainly not our culture.
These celebrities are not protesting turkish dramas...they are protesting against the hit their own production houses are taking, since they had a monopoly to date. Its a financial issue, not cultural. THat is why most of the people you see protesting are owners of some production house.
Agree to the point, but Indian content should also not have been promoted freely a decade ago. It affected our own dramas badly which got glamourised over the period. Upto 90s PTV was able to produce classics revolving around real issues in decent manner and people still remember those dramas unlike the fake hyped stuff being telecasted from all the channels.
