Pakistani Media at its best !

I am sharing an email about what a POPULAR media group Dawn reported our story. Shameless people!

Dear Editor Dawn ,

I am writing to you with regards to the following news published online with the title of “Parents Visiting Pakistani in Chile Bomb Prob”.

http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/dawn-content-library/dawn/news/world/04-saif-chile-parents-qs-05

If you are following up with this story you should know that court has only charged him with “Gun Control Laws”. Brushing aside any terror charges what so ever. Prosecutors, Chile’s Interior Ministry and even US Embassy in Chile had already given statements removing questions about Saif’s intentions in visiting US Embassy in Chile.

Therefore, I expect you to please correct this title and research before posting such kind of titles. This not only distort the facts but hurts million of people from all corners and walks who are counting on Saif’s release. Most importantly it hurts the ongoing legal process and trial. So, please be more attentive and cautious in your approach to such legal matters.

We do appreciate the fact of Dawn TV being the first and most useful channel to cover up this story. Therefore we expect and stress you to please do not fall trap to the media propaganda, instead help us in wining the battle of truth, not just for Saif but for Pakistan and for the Muslims of the world, thanks.

Regards,
Saif’s family

Atleast the Chilean media responds, and maybe not like Dawn.

“Last night, Khan’s brothers were outraged by the images in which his father appeared on the arm by a policeman. “The family is under stress,” he said.”

Translated from Spanish using google.

re: Pakistani Media at its best !

Really pathetic display of journalism, expected better from Dawn.

re: Pakistani Media at its best !

I have never seen dawn news cause all the Pakistani channels are banned here in India but i can tell u that our entire India media behaves in the same manner as your one channel dawn does.

The source of this news item is Associated Press and not Dawn. Please read carefully and you would see it. The same news item was published by CBS News and Yahoo! News with the same headline. Dawn published it as they got it from AP. They can't just change the headlines based on the wishes of ones' family.

re: Pakistani Media at its best !

tx for being so frank and honest Shruti.

Only Allah knows what we are passing through… a few sp. errors fixed.:

Journalism does not mean copy and paste my friend. It requires some investigation, authentication. Otherwise you become a mouth-piece of someone else or a rumor mill or a propagandist.

We filed the same complaint to AP and the other media outlets. They like doing such things and we the family of Saif have followed every minute of the news that emerged. Its a whole new eye-opener for us. The "popular" and "reputable" media.... what a joke.

They are foreigners but we do not expect this from a Pakistani media group.

Its not copy and paste. Dawn has a contract with AP. AP would provide news to Dawn and Dawn would publish it. It happens all over the world as AP provides new items to thousands of Media outlets.

And secondly the investigation regarding the bomb plot is still going on and they are not yet dropped. Please read the following news story (again by AP and this time printed by Arab News):

http://arabnews.com/world/article56693.ece

Hey don’t you understand English???

I am his brother telling you, there were so called traces of residues of some explosive substance…that have not even been proven by the Chilean police, only the private security agency at the embassy. How does that imply a bomb? You are the type who consume all garbage coming from the media.

When you use the word “bomb” it serves somebody’s interest well. You are giving me the damn link from arabnews and I am telling you as his brother following the thing day and night for 3 weeks and telling you what the real deal is.. Ignorance at its best from you!

Well maybe you do understand English but have no brains. Listen, maybe this would make it clear for you, since you keep on mentioning the word"bomb", this implies you have great knowledge of it and that could potentially mean you are a terrorist.

Letter to the Associated Press

We are deeply disturbed by AP’s publishing of a news with the words, “bomb probe” in the title. (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/L/LT_CHILE_EMBASSY_ARREST?SITE=TXMID&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT). The news has been widely cited and created a false impression about the reality of what happened.

We greatly appreciate your covering the story but what has been recently published is a gross mis-statement and in fact deceives the readers. It was never a bomb-probe. It was an alleged investigation of residues of explosives on Saif’s hands when he entered the US embassy. The investigation is still going on.

We must also add that this inaccurate reporting has not only damaged the image of an innocent young man (since everyone is innocent until proven otherwise) but also caused immense disappointment to the family of Saif. We do expect greater responsibility from your news agency.

re: Pakistani Media at its best !

^ keep it up man! i hope your brother comes back safe

Thousands of “media outlets” around the world give a twist too unless it is “desi” media which tries to portray “un-biased” when it comes to international news. Besides, these media outlets publishing a news is like copy paste or forwarding an unverified email. The news has been about traces of explosives on articles carried by the guy and NOT an actual explosive, go figure.

The Dawn has auto-news feed from new agencies including Associated Press and the Reuters. Its not copy past, and its very normal and its used by all the news papers.
