Pakistani marriage counselor?

Is there a way to find one in GTA, preferably Brampton/Mississauga? I feel so cornered from all angles. I am unable to talk to family and none of my friends truly understand the Pakistani culture. I want to speak with someone who understands Islam and Pakistani culture and who can give me a little advice. Please if anyone knows of any therapist of counselor out there give me their contact details.

Re: Pakistani marriage counselor?

One does'nt need to be a Pakistani or a Muslim to be a professional. All marriage councellors should be professionals and all good professionals have the abilty to comprehend and apply their knowledge and skills to any situation.

Friends give advice, councellors are there to listen and assist you to empower yourself to make decisions.

Re: Pakistani marriage counselor?

Sometimes it is better to have a desi counsellor who knows all the ins and outs of the culture, the traditions and way of life, sometimes not.. Depends on the individual couple and their lifestyles and values imo..

If you have trouble finding a Pakistani/desi one perhaps just settle for a Muslim one who understands our concept of marriage, what tends to be expected from each side, commom problems etc.

Good luck and hope everything works out ok for you in the end. My dad's a psychiatrist, if you need any advice or feel that it's all getting too much for you you can pm me :)

Re: Pakistani marriage counselor?

I](http://www.southasianfamilies.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=8&Itemid=61) don’t know if she’s Pakistani, but she’s desi.

They wouldn’t give you any advice. They are not supposed to. They will help you figure out what you’d like to do and what might be best for you. If they’re giving you advice, I’d say you find someone else.

Re: Pakistani marriage counselor?

why not talk to an Imam at a masjid? do you specifically want a pakistani imam? i know of a non-pakistani imam that is really good when dealing with marital issues...

Re: Pakistani marriage counselor?

ISNA and ICNA both have counseling wings with counselors who give basic religious and other prospective of life. If issue is serious, they also refer to good community counselors
