Islamabad : The Pakistani judges, who refused to approve President Musharrafs emergency rule, have been again put under house arrest.
The move came only a day after Saudi Ambassador in Pakistan Ali Al-Asseri met with the deposed Chief Justice and the Attorney General on Friday.
The judges were put under house arrest and heavy police was deployed around their official residences on Saturday in eastern Lahore city, police sources told KUNA.
It was not immediately clear why the judges were put under house arrest again after their retirement notices had been issued and they were ordered to evacuate official residences immediately.
On Friday Saudi ambassador Ali Al-Asseri met with deposed Chief Justice Iftikra Chauhdary and extended him an invitation for Haj in Saudi Arabia. However, according to media, the two sides discussed possibilities of reinstating some judges who refused to take oath under Musharrafs Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO). The measures have been taken as the Attorney General Abdul Qayyum has announced that the emergency will be lifted on Dec 15th and the constitution will be restored. According to legal experts, all the newly-inducted judges will have to re-take their oaths under the restored constitution.
