Pakistani JF-17 to be displayed at Farnsborough Air Show

I think it is great news for all the outsiders who were never this close to this Pakistani-Chinese joint fighter. It will allow Pakistan to market it to potential buyers, as well as display its progress in how far along it has come.

Gem of the whole ordeal is the fact that true allies accomplish things together, and have something to show for it. Sino-Pak relations are exactly that. It’s not just the friendship rhetoric, JF17 is the speaking testament of that cooperation. And I for one certainly hope, Pakistan continues to maintain and further strengthen its relations with China, and gradually distance itself from other “allies” who are more a liability than of any mutual benefit.

JF-17 Thunder fighters were a major attraction of the Farnborough International Airshow, which ended here on Sunday.

“For me, they are the stars of Farnborough,” said Piotr Abraszek, aviation editor of Warsaw-based magazine Nowa Technika Wojskowa, who said he had been following reports of the JF-17 for several years.

Also interested in the fighter was a Japanese air attache at the country’s embassy here in London.

What interests him most about the aircraft?

“Quality and capability. And how it compares with other Asian aircraft,” he responded.

The aircraft has been in development in one form or another since 1991. After several design concepts and name changes, it emerged in its present form.

Since acquiring the first two from China in July 2007, the Pakistani Air Force is now equipped with 14 JF-17s. It has now started its own assembly line, which saw the first aircraft roll out in November 2009.

Despite the early morning hour at the air show, and the fact the planes sit in a corner of the local airport where they are one display, dozens of people have already made their way to see the “mysterious” aircraft from Asia, even when their full-glass cockpits are still covered by canvas.

The two on display here were assembled in Pakistan, said Ali Saeed, the chief of the JF-17 engineering office of the PAF, which according to previous reports has requested as many as 250 of the aircraft from China.

For Major Azkaar Ul-Husnain, who had also flown other fighters like the F-6 and F-16, the JF-17 is like his best friend.

He’s been flying them since early 2008, and took to the skies again to bring one to the air show.

“It is quite useful. And it’s a very important part of the PAF,” he said, noting the plane will eventually replace its present fleet of F-7s, A-5s and Mirages.

“We hope in the future 80 percent of the air force will be JF-17,” Ul-Husnain said.

Re: Pakistani JF-17 to be displayed at Farnsborough Air Show

Thier good airfcraft…

Given such a short build time it’s proven itself a very good aircraft…

And as others have said it totally outclasses indians main strike arm the M.I.G 29

To the Pak airforce:salute: :jhanda:

Re: Pakistani JF-17 to be displayed at Farnsborough Air Show

an aircraft developed in this short span of time and with the this budget is a very rare case, best in class you can say.

and of course its not the end, i had read somewhere they are working on stealth version of JF17 with bigger and better engine with more thrust, more height, and they gonna equip it with better beyond visual range missiles and stuff

there are many comparisons done between JF17 v/s kevari, JF17 v/s F16, JF17 v/s mirage, and most of the time, thunder stands out of the crowd. but of course there is a trade-off, when you consider agility and other fighting capabilities, you must also consider the time/cost factor, and the limitation Pakistan had to face.

a good job done over all

^according to Janes,JF 17 outclasses M.I.G 29 in maneuverability and range.

JF 17’s state of the art,fly by wire 4.5th generation cockpit

following is MIG 29’s analog cockpit

Re: Pakistani JF-17 to be displayed at Farnsborough Air Show

^ one more reason to be proud of my security forces & one more reason we will win this war and bury Taliban forces alive including their masters.

It's quite a achievement, that even with all the internal attacks by losers sent from hell (commonly known as Taliban) - security forces still moving towards high-tech weaponry which in turn guarantee survival of Pakistan.

A strong message to all the anti-Pakistani elements either in eastern & Western borders.

^ Yet again on most points i find myself agreeing with the New Yorker.:k:

So hats off to your words Amigo :aliyish:

dont know

Re: Pakistani JF-17 to be displayed at Farnsborough Air Show

PAF :k: :jhanda:

If only the Pak Army had the professionalism and competence of the PAF, the country would be in much better shape.

and what do you meant by this ?

Re: Pakistani JF-17 to be displayed at Farnsborough Air Show

Nawaz Sharif showed up at the show today at the show and got to sit in the cockpit of the plane. This project started in his second stint to power in 1997.

It would be quite an experience sitting in one of these planes. I always wanted to sit in a F-16 cockpit (no, not while its flying ofcourse :hehe:)

If the officers and Lieutanant-Generals were professional soldiers instead of Politican-Generals looting and killing their own people, killing popular leaders, undermining democracy, Pak defenses would be stronger, and we would have much better governance-as being discussed in the other thread.

it's already stronger, period.

Internally we do have problems, why we have it - the location of Pakistan !
