Sindh High Court on Friday restrained a local TV channel from airing the “Pakistan Idol” programme in a Rs.50 million lawsuit filed by M/s Independent Media for injunction on its franchise right.
The plaintiff submitted that it has acquired franchise right to air the localized version of the programme “Pakistan Idol” from its owner Freemantle Media for broadcast in Pakistan.
The plaintiff’s counsel Mohammad Ali Mazhar contended that his client has invested millions of rupees to acquire the right to air this programme, which is also being aired in 43 other countries, but the defendant encroached such mark and idea which was actually the plaintiff’s right.
The counsel expressed the fear that the defendant (Fortune Marketing) was trying to infringe such rights and it appeared that it may first air the program on August 13. He sought interim injunction restraining the defendant from telecasting the program in question.
SHC’s single bench granted interim injunction restraining the defendant from telecasting the program till next date of hearing.

I think the judges are way below the mark.
Sajjad Ali is ok, but the others I dont know...if you see the level of judges for Indian Idol and even in American Idol Simon's wry ear for music, I dont think Hadiqa and Abrar even list in a competitive category...And who's Farrukh Abid?
The prog should be fun I guess, finally it comes to Pakistan.
Din Channel of Lahore had been airing coming soon ads of their rip off production called Din Pakistan Idol, apparently they have been restricted by court now as in the article above.
I must admit though some of the singers they showed in the ads were very talented.
I'm sure much more talent will be dug out with the real larger version.
I think Sajjad Ali is a great choice for a judge. They guy has had an amazing career, has an amazing voice and has had real musical training. Not a big fan of hadiqa but she has hd formal musical training so I suppose it is a good choice.
I dont undrstand why Abrar is a judge. :S
I think two singers is more than enuff as judges. They need a composer or a music producer or somebody who is not a singer but has been close to the music industry for a while.
And three judges shud be more than enuff. Just bcoz Indian idol has four, doesnt mean we need four.
I wish they had better choice for judges... waysay, I kept wondering who else can be among judges... so do you guys have any other names and how come we have only singers and who is that other guy?
Anyway, it is great they have it but I wish they wouldn't follow the exact voting pattern as we can see the loop holes in the voting pattern on indian idol. And pakistanis are no different then their neighbors.
Oh for judges few names just came to my mind... roona laila, tina sani, tahira syed, fariha pervez (for women judges)......
Rahat Ali..nusrat fateh ali's nephew...
I like faakhir too....
