The other thread in this forum got me thinking on this topic. This is purely academic so please do not submerge this thread with irrelevant posts. I have a small question:
Are there:
Ethnic Baloch Hindus
Ethnic Pashtun Hindus
Ethnic Punjabi Hindus
Ethnic Non-Sindhi Hindus
in Pakistan?
I would also like to know about people belonging to other Non-Islamic religions like the pagan people in Chitral. I am looking forward to some really juicy anthropological info. Those knowledgeable please please do post more about this topic.
Here is a website with some info on Pakistani Hindus.
There was this other website (actually a monthly mag by Pakistani Hindus) and it had the best info. For some reason i cant find that website any more.
But here is one though. Yahoo | Mail, Weather, Search, Politics, News, Finance, Sports & Videos
Whatever there religious affiliation, they are to be equal citizens of Pakistan, as promised by the Leader himself. Given that we enjoy a Pakistan thru the iron will of Jinnah and his unbreakable commitment and spirit, we are obliged to return to the vision he held.
For the departure from Jinnah's plan, I lay the blame at the feet of extremist elements, who have done more to harm the image of Islam and Pakistan then to help it.
Yeah sorry buddy, but unless the advocates of a just Pakistan are vocal in their commitment to Jinnah's dream, I fear our minorities will be drowned in the sea of extremism.
I cannot abandon my comittment to his program. My love for Jinnah and his dream Pakistan grows with each line I read about him, truly has become my hero.
Inshallah, Pakistan shall one day become the country it was destined to be. Nevertheless, have you in your experience ever met a Baloch or Pashtun Hindu? Meaning, someone who is ethnically Baloch or Pashtun and not just speaks Balochi or Pashto. Do you also know anything about the animist people in Chitral?
yaar what are you talkikng about. I dont support MMA at all but when the babri mosque incident happened in India and some people went and damaged a temple in shanti nagar (Pakistan), it was jamat-e-islami that got money together to rebuild it.
i’ve never met any pakistani hindu, much less a balochi/pashtun hindu…however, i was suprised to find out that the Kapoor family (Indian film industry) is originally of Pashtun origin. Prithviraj Kapoor was a “Hindu Pathan” whose family was settled in Kabul and Peshawar. of course, he and most other hindu pathans moved to India at the earlier part of the century.
i wonder about the Brahui-speaking people of Baluchistan. the language is dravidian, so i wonder if there is any higher than average representation of Hindus in this community. of course probablity would suggest that they are muslims.
The Kapoors were probably "Punjabi Pathans". The title "Pathan" was a honorary title issued on noble families in the middle ages. Not every Pathan is a Pashtun. All Pashtuns are of Indo-Iranian origin whereas many "Pathans" are of Indo-Aryan origin, like the Kapoors. I don't know if there are any Pashtuns who are Hindus (not recent converts). I also want to know if there are any Buddhist Pashtuns (more likely, because the predominant religion of Bactria aka Gandhara was Buddhism) or Zoroastrian Pashtuns (highly unlikely, because of mass conversion of Zoroastrian Pashtuns to Buddhism in ancient times).
Brahui people speak a Dravidian language but I doubt if their ethnicity has anything to do with modern Dravidians, like Telugus or Tamils. This is because they live in a sea of Aryan tribes so genetic influence is highly possible. Besides, even if they are not Muslim, I doubt if they are Hindu, because the Indus Valley people followed a similar kind of, but not a religion same as Hinduism.
how/why would Punjabi migrate and settle in Afghanistan? you may be confusing Prithviraj’s origin with the current classification of the Kapoors as Punjabis. Prithviraj married a Punjabi woman, and the family has probably married mostly Punjabis since then. however, i was referring solely to Prithviraj and his family who migrated from Kabul to Peshawar, and later to Bombay.
Yeah I understand what you are talking about. Kapoors are basically descendants of Khatri Brahmans who were reassigned as Kshatriyas in ancient times. They have lived in Gandhara (modern-day NWFP and Afghanistan) since ages. The name Kapoor derives from Karpoora, as they were camphor traders. They were an Indic clan and not Iranian. Whereas Pashtuns are a (predominantly) Iranian tribe with admixtures from Indic, Greek and Turk people.
Ive come across a lot of Sindhi Hindus. I think thats where the largest poulation is today, in interior Sindh. a lot of them live in karachi too coming from the interior. many are quite well educated our family knows two very well off families. one a retd high court judge. one an ex chairman of chamber of commerce i think...there are many doctors accountants etc. and they are not discriminated against. they are true Pakistanis and serve the nation well.
this guy has been minister in Pakistan govt in past. i dont know if he is hindu or Sikh, by face and wear no turban, has long moustache though. he is a royality!!!
