Pakistani Hindu's flock to Balochistan for annual pilgrimage

Long live tolerance of minority faiths in Pakistan.

Prayers offered

In April each year, thousands of Hindus flock to the cave temple of Hinglaj Mata, situated in a remote, desolate and hilly area of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, 250km (155 miles) north-west of Karachi. The high point of the four-day pilgrimage comes on the third day when high priests chant mantras, inviting gods to accept the offerings of the devotees and bring them peace and plenty.

Yeah, this was a very interesting report from the BBC... The Coastal Highway has been a godsend... The pilgrimage site is now easily accesible and open!
Especially the two Hindus from Karachi who came from Karachi by bike!

The 653 Kilometer long Makran Coastal Highway (N10) connects Karachi to Gwadur**.** This highway’s construction was inaugurated by President Musharraf in August 2001, and it was completed in 2005.

Here is a thread I posted in Image Gallery with pictures of the Makran Coastal Highway.

i hope to visit it one day. a pilgrim is not supposed to drink water till end of yatra and its place where guru nanak went too

Re: Pakistani Hindu's flock to Balochistan for annual pilgrimage

Before the Coastal Highway was built, it took a 93 miles trek from the nearest road through the desert to reach the site. Imagine how difficult that must have been.
Some people even rode their bikes all the way from Karachi. Its a very interesting event...

Re: Pakistani Hindu's flock to Balochistan for annual pilgrimage

A 93 mile trek through the desert - jeez that must have hard, and stopped a lot of Hindu pilgirms from attending this pilgrimage. Thank God for the splendid Makran Highway, a marvel of Pakistani infrastructural development in recent years.

Re: Pakistani Hindu's flock to Balochistan for annual pilgrimage

I think they are able to drive directly to the site or close to it, of road vehicles and buses could make it I think... But I could be wrong... I dot think its very far from the highway.
