i remember there was such a big controversary when Iraj (the model) cut her hair really short…

yes but the haircut gelled very well with her personality and she carried it with a certain flair which NON-MODEL pakistani women usually lack and then end up lo0king hideous with a hair chopped very short …what i would suggest is consult your hair stylist which suits you best…and then keep it and just be bold about it…don’t care about what others say…

but i am partial towards long hair because i think it is what suits South Asian ladies exactly as a cake goes with frosting…long hair do add beauty, provided they are kept healthy and unfrizzy ( or is the word nonfrizzy:confused: , well whatever)
P.S. but it’s truly difficult to manage long hair:bummer: saying this with personal experience!

Sara, you hit the nail squarely on the head! I get so revolted by desis with long, ratty, shapeless hair. No amount of thel is going to help that—cut it off!

In my family in Pakistan, they really like shorter hair on the girls and women–to them, it’s a sign you’ve visited a salon, spent money and are taking care of yourself.

you don’t HAVE TO have short hair just to show off you visited salon, spent money and took care of yourself…i have many ladies in my family who have very long hair which are kept healthy, beautiful, and strong MASHALLAH by regular trimmings, oil massages etc…

i agree that it should and must be a personal choice whether to keep long or short hair..but i must add, so many times i see women with so short hair that it looks queerish to me

Long hair has long been considered a sign of sharafat under the rock that I come from in Pakiland. Its a stupid and useless cultural expectation, dont buy into it!

I had hair till my end of back, i cut them since managing them is way too hard Unfortunately my husband DID NOT like it at all, he refused to take me to gatherings and other places although he is an graduate and lived his entire life in London, where as im am born n brought up in the GCC. I was so surprised that what sort of behavior hes having towards me.

That is an overtly cruel and injust thing to do to you…and over such a little thing!! I’m sure he does some things that you may not completely approve of 100%… Make sure you mention them and remind him how a marriage is supposed to be a compromise that is based on reciprocal understanding and appreciation.
