Pakistani Films - update

I recently saw Yeh Dil Aap Ka Hua. The movie has been running for 6 months in Karachi’s Capri cinema, so my uncle and I thought it would be something interesting to see. Little did we know what crap was about to be thrown at us for 3.5 hours.

The script seems to have been written by a matric fail. The dialougues are absolutely beqaar and the only saving grace of the film was a few comedy scenes with Ismail Tara. Everyone other than Sana overacted. And I dont mean Shah Rukh Khan- type overacting. I mean like Veena on Misfit overacting, except worse.

The songs were a positive point of the film and the coreography wasn’t so bad as the script, although my uncle thought the coreography was done by a matric fail too.

I mean, I was seriously disappointed in the film. And the other thing I was furious about was the cinema itself. The cinemas are even dirtier than before, although Capri is one of the better ones in Karachi. We bought two soft drinks for my little cousins. But when we gave the man money, he pushed it aside and said he’ll come and take it later. After the intermission ended, he came about half an hour later and asked for money for 3 or 4 drinks. Even when we told him we bought only 2 soft drinks he kept insisting we had bought 3 or 4. Grrr.. And not to mention how LOUD the other audience members were. The families sitting 3 rows behind us were so loud - they were halving conversations during the movie!

Jeez. With such an illiterate and fazool public, no wonder the movie is still doing business.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for Sharaarat and Pyar Hi Pyar Mein - both set to release in January.

And should I even begin to talk about Fire? The movie was released on Eid and is no longer in any Karachi theatre. It didn’t even last one month. I feel bad for Asif Ali Pota. Maybe next time he’ll make a real movie.

Hrmm....things don't look so good for lollywood. Not surprising.

Pyari how do you get to see these movies?Where do you live?

I think this annoys me more than the poor standard of the film. It's about time something was done to stop this kind of rubbish. The film being crap is no surprise. I've said in the past that it's not just about how much money you throw at a film, it needs good scripts, actors, production etc. as well.

good to see you back pcg....so u are visiting pakistan thats why we havnt seen you around here...and this was suppose to be one of the best pakistani movies lol

Nice to read a first hand experience in a Pakistani cinemahouse. Thanks PCG.

Thanks you saved me ten quid or so, I was about to watch the film! :)

Yeah, I just returned from Pakistan. I felt it was my duty to warn those of you who enjoy watching real movies.

well PyariCgudia....... i think u havnt seen a pakistani film before....Yeh Dil Aap Ka Hua is a MUCH better film than the rest of paki films being made or were made.........it is really different from them in every aaspect.....music,direction,sound quality......it is the right start for our film industry.....i watched it......the storyline wasnt good enough but i enjoyed the film because u dont see such films often being made in pak.....THUMBS UP to Javed Sheikh for making this film !
PyariCgudia....go watch some other pakistani movies and then comment on yeh dil aap ka hua....im sure u would change your attitude towards YDAKH..... chill !!

aab koi aapke kehnay se tu illitrate nehein ho jaye ga na, judge Judy.

someone doesn't like the film or have already seen it a dozen of times and they're talkin' in the theater doesn't make them illiterate, just so you know.

I agree with beautiful mind. YDAH is a much better film when put against the rest of the crap. I have seen it, that's why commenting that it is not even half as bad as you made it out to be.

Beautiful Mind - You're right - the film IS much better in terms of production and even script than the average run-of-the-mill Pakistani film.

However, Javed Sheikh put a lot of work into the quality of production - the camera work, scenery, that kind of thing. What bothers me is that in the excitement of it all, he forgot the script. I refuse to believe that a better script can't be written in Pakistan. If our dramas have such excellent scripts, then why can't our movies??

And if you're going to be a hotshot and attempt to change the look of the film industry, how do you manage to forget about upping the quality of the script?

And FYI, I HAVE watched Pakistani movies before. When Syed Noor first started out as a director with his wife, Rukhsana Noor (journalist), they managed to give a breath of fresh air by making films that were watchable by families. The reason why Syed Noor's movies worked was not only beacause Syed Noor was a bit more creative in his direction than other directors, but because Rukhsana Noor wrote decent scripts.

Now that Syed Noor is off having an affair with actress Saima (or so rumoured), its well known that Rukhsana Noor is no longer writing for Syed Noor. Result? Syed Noor hasn't had a solid hit since his wife stopped writing for him.

I think Javed Sheikh managed to do some good camera work and the picture was crystal clear. But its not enough. There is no excuse for YDAKH's terribly written script. When you see the movie, you'll know what I mean.
