Hello All:
My elder brother has got immigration recently and will be moving here soon. He has 4 kids and is well settled in Pakistan. But wants to get kids educated here.

Any suggestions about how to fing jobs in health sector. He is more focused on public health administration and community medicine.

Thank in advance.

Please tell himnot to burn all boats while moving to Canada.. Medicine field is near to impossible in Canada.. there are so many men who lament since they also sacrificed for kids.. but may be hes a lucky one..

Assalaamu Alaikum AIkram :flower1:

i certainly do not intend to put you (or your brother) off, if i may say this in the hopes of offering some sincere advice after some experience - it is extremely difficult for foreign-trained medical professionals to seek equivalent work or positions in Canada. In order to work here, he will have to obtain a license - and in order to earn a residency spot in a hospital, he may have to wait several years. In the western province of Alberta, for the next twenty four months, only eight residency spots have been allocated for international graduates. There are hundreds, literally, of foreign-trained medical professionals hoping to apply for those accreditation spots in Alberta. It’s not unusual for individuals to wait five-eight years to become ‘qualified’ by current Canadian standards.

Ofcourse it’s not impossible, it’s just that - subsequent to seeing and hearing so many friends & family members become demoralized after investing so much money & effort into coming here in the hopes of practicing medicine here, i would just advise anyone that they should be mentally prepared to put up with quite a few obstacles in the way. i heard that the Ontario government may be implementing some changes in their approach towards foreign-trained professionals; dunno how far those changes have actually come across. Anyway here are some links that i hope will help, Insha’Allah:

it is indeed very tough...and yes, in ontario, they are plannin to change the way this is handled...it'll be sometime b4 the changes take effect though...lemme get more info, and i'll reply to u in detail soon...

I would sadly have to go with everything that's been said here so far.

Unless he's an exceptionally driven or mentally strong person, he should not come to Canada. It will take him a very long time before he will enjoy anything half close to the status and respect that he currently enjoys in Pakistan. And all this if he succeeds at all.

Well, I agree with most of what had been said here. It is hard, but at the same time, I have some good examples within my family and relatives in the same field.

My cousins, Doctors from Lahore came here 2 years ago and went through the same trouble, but they worked hard and instead of just going after medicine (MD, etc.) they joined the pathology, internal medicine, laboratory techniques and both of them just got really good job and working for the St. Michael Hospital.

According to them, if the person is well qualified in the medical field from Pakistan, there is no reason that he/she cannot succeed and there are so many fields where you can start and work towards the related fields in health sciences and are still in demands. They might have to go through some certification/ education process or training in the beginning.

One more factor to be consider, and that is family's financial situation. Coming here with four kids mean family of 6... Initially, there might be some difficulties (depending on family's financial situation) and it might be hard to find the job in related field right away.

Nadia, thanks for the links.

Ikram, if you need more guideline or help from my cousin, you can PM me. I will get you more information.

Amir

You hit the nail here.. problem with our peopel is that they dont go after good fields like laboratory techs and other like those.. and waste so uch time.. propert dealing, insurance are other fields one can excel..

 Masha’Allah that’s really generous of you. That was a very well-balanced reply, Amir. :k: i sincerely apologize, i hope i didn’t give the impression in my initial reply that it’s a hopeless situation in Canada for foreign-trained medical professionals. i certainly don’t want to discourage anyone from trying; hopefully if his brother does come to Canada, i hope his experiences will be very similar to your cousins’ Insha’Allah.

Thank you all !!

Amir, can you check with your cousin if there is anything that can lead to some jobs in health administration or community medicine?

Regards,

Amir...... Thanks for you input.

It is nice to know that there are people out there who are willing to help others. Usually, people who have gone through the struggles don't turn back and look. Foreign trained doctors is such a hot topic. Please continue helping each other. We need muslims doctors in Canada.
Anyways, can you please give more details about what training and programs your cousins completed and wheres about are they in Canada.

Thanks
