LAHORE: Renowned poet Amjad Islam Amjad has said that Pakistani dramas were losing their essence owing to a number of factors, including excessive advertisements.
He stated this while addressing a seminar on ‘Pakistani Media and Social Values’ organised by the Forman Journalism Society of the Department of Mass Communication, FC College Lahore on Friday. FCC Department of Humanities Dean Dr Waseem Anwar, Mass Communication Chairperson Dr Hanan Mian, FJS Coordinator Prof Fahad Mahmood, faculty members and students were also present. Amjad Islam Amjad is distinguished for his work, and his drama “Waris” was a huge hit in the 80s. Speaking on the occasion, Amjad said that before the development in media technology, theater was the only source of entertainment available to people. He remembered the role of the painters who used to paint the backgrounds of theater in accordance with the theme and scene required during the show.
“With the advent of technology brought by the Britain, the concept of drama making was introduced in the Subcontinent. Initially, the Urdu dramas were the translations or adaptations of English dramas,” he added. “Values are broadly of two types, universal and local. Universal are for every human being whereas local values vary from society to society. While making a drama, the local values should be given special consideration.”
**Amjad said that he once had the opportunity to meet Indian actors Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachan. He recalled Amitabh’s praise for Pakistani dramas as “worth watching family entertainment”.

Amjad said that the current Pakistani dramas were now losing their essence by running after advertisements. “Advertisements are the oxygen of dramas, but it does not mean that we neglect the social role that they play,” he added. staff report
yes, today drama making is just a business, they don't care about quality products. A famous actress also highlighted this thing in a talk show as she said " jo giant groups hain un ko log kehte hain k aik channel bhi khol lein aaj kal yeh acha business hai, theek thaak paise ban jaate hain, commercials bhut milte haiin."
A few months back, I was watching a drama on PTV and they cut the scene in between to show ads It was so irritating and unprofessional that I had switch the channel
hahaha it also happened with me, last year din drama was re-telecast on ptv and while watching they did the same thing.
Also the length of drama episode reduced. sometimes they telecast 32-35 minutes episode (including re-cap). This is how they automatically converted 13 episodes drama into 20 episodes

yes, its a common thing now a days, well i agreed with Amjad sahib's words; “Advertisements are the oxygen of dramas, but it does not mean that we neglect the social role that they play,” I remember & off course you too, last episodes of many ptv serials continued after khabrnama but they didn't loose the track, especially hawaein drama-what a craze of this drama at that time.

yes, Hawain was getting 50 sponsors for an episode, but they concluded it within 14 episodes of 50 minutes. They used to telecast it after Khabarnama.
adverts do appear in drams of abroad and overseas… magar itnay bhaiyanak tareekay say nahi dikhaey jatay haen jis terha ab dikhaey jatay haen..
i do understand the importance of adverts ya sponsors keh lo. magar iska ye katan matlab nahi hai kay drama sirf 20 minute ka ho aur baaki 40 minute kay ishtahaar
It's not just the problem of playing advertisement but also the timings at which they are played say for example a man is dying and he is just about to breath his last when....commercial break :)
They don't even know when and where to add commercials.
