Pakistani drama - An Indians letter in today's Dawn

Pakistani dramas

I AM an Indian living in the US and never miss a chance to watch Pakistani serials on DVDs. I must say that these dramas truly represent the good and the evils that plague society and the locations chosen to shoot them are beautiful.

I get a chance to see Pakistan outside of the studio. The serials are short, natural and precise and the actors have real life-like emotions and are very talented.

I must confess that Indian dramas don’t stack up in front of Pakistani ones. They are long and usually have the same boring story right out of the box every time, for example, one daughter-in-law is good, the other one is bad, one son is good to father, the other one is planning ways to inherit all the money, etc.

These stories have nothing new in it, they simply twist it just to make it more sensational through heavy-duty music. They don’t bring in new ideas in society or help expose the dirty linen of society.

If Pakistani drama writers can produce such wonderful dramas, why not movies? You have all the talent.

Alas! We run after the Indian glamour! So sad!

I can never forget the scene from a classic drama from PTV Lahore's studio about 10 years back. The scene shows an old and blind man always asking "bhuk bari lagi hain" and once his grandson throws away the roasted seeds of corns over him - saying "lay baba lay, khalay"

Re: Pakistani drama - An Indians letter in today's Dawn

It seems there are no fans of PTV's classical dramas! Everyone is running after glamour of India and Geo.

do watch In the name of God (khuda k leya) by Shoaib mansoor (maker of fifty fity- a famous pk sitcom, ankahi, Alpha Bravo Charlie, n a very informative program Gulz n Guyz)
whereas u may see movie by saqib malik (director of khamaj- excellent cinematography in fuzon’s this song) n also by** umer anwar** i think da same guy who has done loadz of experimentation in several music videoz such as (i think :hmmm:) Addat, strings- mera bhicra yaar, josh remiz aye mausum, sahilz dil chahai n many otherz. or try Sabiha Sumar’s Khamosh pani, i heard its pretty good (but havent seen it)

Re: Pakistani drama - An Indians letter in today's Dawn

Mostar95 sounds like a pakistani in indian disguise :)

On serious note, Pakistan Dramas used to be good (not that I watch them anymore).

When it comes to Movies, Indians really rule the industry. After Hollywood, no one can come close to them.

Re: Pakistani drama - An Indians letter in today's Dawn

^ Aren't you a one of the muslim conservatives in the religion forum? What are you doing here talking about how great Indian movies are??? Most of them feature pretty serious "gandagi", as conservative people like to call it.

Anyway.

I always feel like its some Pakistani pretending to be an Indian - probably commissioned by the newspaper itself - when I see these sorts of "I'm an Indian, and I LOVE Pakistani stuff".

Re: Pakistani drama - An Indians letter in today's Dawn

There was a time when Pakistani TV was banned in India though terrestrial broadcasts could be seen in the border areas on most days. Serials like "Tanhaiyan" were immensely popular in India. Also Pakistani musicians have always been popular in India - ghazal singers like Mehdi Hassan and Ghulam Ali, bands like Junoon etc. Talent does not know any boundaries. Whenever there are talented Pakistani artistes, there are audiences not just in Pakistan but across the border as well.

Re: Pakistani drama - An Indians letter in today's Dawn

Oh you got me! Hurray! But how did you come to that?

Re: Pakistani drama - An Indians letter in today’s Dawn

Yeah, but most of there movies are just pathetic at best…
LOL have you seen this opening scene from their big budget Dhoom movie… Hrithik dressed as an old lady isnt exactly second runner up status… :hehe:

Re: Pakistani drama - An Indians letter in today's Dawn

Pakistani tv was banned in India to stop the kashmir propoganda, not because of the quality of its serials. Infact india that time was makeing better serials like buniyad, hum log, ramayan etc etc.....
I have never seen any pakistani serial being popular in India. I used to like one called "Family Front" but then i was tired of unexpected, long and never ending ads.
Not that indians are making great serials now days. though i havent seen a serial in years but i am people tell me that quality has gone down to the rock bottom.

I tell you what pakistani stuff was popular in india... it was Stage Dramas (comedy) and music. Omer sharif was the common and known name in all house holds in india that time (now he lost his mind and sense of humor) . We used to rent all his stage shows. it was like very popular. Pakistani sigers and music was always popular, is still popular and will be popular in the future too.
But not the serials... personally i think they are no match to already crap indian serials.

So give credit where it is due... pakistani stage dramas, and music "thumbs up:
tv serials :thumbs down:
