Pakistani Dhabka Work??

is it different from indian?? how does it look im curious to know if anyone knows??

Re: Pakistani Dhabka Work??

I've noted that there is way more detail in the Indian work - kinda gives it a cluttered look.

Pakistani dabka work - most of the stuff that I've seen in Karachi comes from Lahore or some other Punjabi city - its more khula khula - not so much detail in such little space.

But only from the little I've seen.

Otherwise its still the same stuff, really.

Re: Pakistani Dhabka Work??

What exactly is dhabka? Could someone explain please?

Re: Pakistani Dhabka Work??

Re: Pakistani Dhabka Work??

Dabka or Dhabka or kora is the work of thin spring like coils in gold or silver. Pakistani work in Dabka is done with a special needle called AAr- this produces stronger stitches and holds very well. Indian equivilant is zardozi or zardosi, its also spring like coils but its applied with regular needle and the stitch is loose.
Pakistanis do dabka work with aar on large frames called adda which is placed on the floor and embroideres sit around it to work on it.
Indians do zardozi work on smaller hand held embroidery frames.
I visited PSFD in Islamabad last year and got info from their textiles and embroidery group on the different embroidery techniques in the subcontinent.

Re: Pakistani Dhabka Work??

So it’s like zari then.

Re: Pakistani Dhabka Work??

Zari means any embroidery with metal in it- mostly its used synonymously with tilla which is a fine metallic thread but hand work using metallic accents is know as Salmay ka kaam

Re: Pakistani Dhabka Work??

Re: Pakistani Dhabka Work??

oh hell the Indian one is not better. It gets black and faded fast.

Re: Pakistani Dhabka Work??

dhaka has awsome saris though. i have so many of them from dhaka.

Re: Pakistani Dhabka Work??

^ suroor what kinda "chollis' or blouses do u wear with the saris? im petrified of the short ones

Re: Pakistani Dhabka Work??

my blouses are medium sized. its short short but its not fully covered either. BUT i wrap my sari in such a way that u dont even see anything exposed. but sleeves are short though, some 4inches n some are half way above my elbows. n always always wear heels (sandles) with saris.

Re: Pakistani Dhabka Work??

yeah dkaka does have really nice sari's...one of my friends is from dhaka and she bought me some sari's from there........oh and the pakistani dabka is a lot better because it tends not to fall apart as much as the indian dabka
