Pakistani culture

So what is Pakistani culture to you? name some values, attributes etc that you find attracting in Pakistani culture

I had a discussion with my husband about how to raise our kids and we dont want them to be inspired by Bollywood values. None of us wathes Bollywood movies but people around are very much influenced by this and their lifestyles witness that they have role models from the film industry i.e looking at how weddings are celebrated etc.

So what are core Pakistani values that are our own and not influenced by the West or Bollywood?

Re: Pakistani culture

Well Pakistani culture is something that is let us say a work in progress…

Pakistan is a polyglot nation made up of many cultures and ethnicities and like many nations no one group is the sole holder of the cultural mantle as it were, unlike some countries.

In Pakistan here is a handfull of things that I can say summarise Pakistani culture no matter where in Pakistan you go.

  • All Pakistani’s are serious food lovers, even if they hate cooking or food they will still find something apealling and Pakistani food is without doubt among the best in the world.

  • Pakistani people are deeply rooted in some form of belief, even if it’s not religous dogma even the most sophisticated and modernised Pakistani will be superstitous or look for signs in something… :hehe:

  • Pakistani people like most people are deeply proud of thier homeland, even if the place was a hell-hole they will still be happy to wave thier flag :jhanda:

  • Pakistani people on the whole are among the friendliest on earth and love banter, I don’t know many Pakistani people who are quite or reclusive it is our nature to be bubly at least for the most of us, even a Wolf like me

Re: Pakistani culture

Watta satta , basant , pagh, pancha-iat system , bradaree system are 100 percent Pakistani culture.

Re: Pakistani culture

Aren't some them getting old? And obsolete like baradari system

Re: Pakistani culture

These systems are not limited to Pakistan though, baraderee is more or less known throughout Asia in various forms and Panchayat is just as widespread but I get what you mean. :cb:

Re: Pakistani culture

Not where I come from .

Re: Pakistani culture

I agree Baradree system for one is getting more popular if anything...

Re: Pakistani culture

Baradree system like where u only get married in your baradree

Re: Pakistani culture

:hehe: Not quite, baradaree as I understand is more or less an extended fammily, akin to a brotherhood or Bondsmen/clansmen bound by a united loyalty.

Offcourse marriage is merely one way they may be united, some are united through oaths of fealty going back a millenia or so… others are merely landlords and thier tennents.

Re: Pakistani culture

Every provinces, its captial, cites, sub-cities have its own culture which makes it valuable on each others. Every culture brings its own flavor although they all unitedly express express the same interest on its national events i.e. Youm-e-Pakistan, Jashn-e-Azadi etc.

Re: Pakistani culture

Even Karachi culture is different from Islamabad and Lahore culture.
