Pakistani Cultural groups

Anyone have such a group in your area and what kinds of activities do they do? Have you ever been to a meet and greet for Pakistanis? What did you like about those sort of events, and what did you not like about them?

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

dude dimagh hy yaa she'etan ki workshop?

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

What is so shaitaani about what I just said?

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

She'taan ki work shop is not always evil.
But its always busy.

The only pakistani gathering we ever get in Ireland in my city is the “eid ki namaz” when the so-called muslims finally remember there is also a masjid in the city.

Not fair :naraz: I want a desi cultural group too!

apart from eid's, ramadan, pak day, iqbal/quaid day ... their is dawat's keep going nearly once in a month .. where all the interested families gather .. ..ladies do their stuff (back biting) .. bald headed's (husband) talk about politics or watch cricket..

we the young look for the other young ladies and do our stuff.... it's good here !

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

so you guys do have a cultural organization?

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

yup yup !

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

we dont have any such thing here

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

i am looking for one in my area cuz i love to interact.....but sometimes i seriously feel that there is a lack of genuineness among pakistanis in general. either pakistani are way too modern or either they are way too much into MSA stuff.

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

^ what's the problem with being too modern or too religious .. does this make then indians instead of pakistani. it's all about finding your common interests !

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

^ well i dont care as long they keep things to themselves. it is just that i dont like to serve as a middle ground for all the clashes. my ultra modern friends complain that if we go to any MSA event (wearing Spaghetti Halter Dress) cuz everyone start making faces.

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

been part of heaps of pakistani cultural groups while growing up... was the public relations officer (whatever that means) for one of the groups...

there's one really big one in melbourne at the moment which started out a few years ago.. and it's prob the most successful one, in terms it involves the youth as well as the adults.... a few weeks ago, they had a bowling night out... which sounded like fun. I didnt get a chance to go.. but i know a lot of the young crowd went..

they also hold the pakistan independance day thingy each year which is pretty good... different from the tablo stuff we used to do as kids.. they do more of a fashion parade type thing, upto date dances... a movie on whats happened throughout the year... and u sit in a proper lil cinema to view that.. its nice.

Havent been to a meet and greet thing... BUT arent these get togethers good for those neways?

That's exactly why we need more cultural groups with a cultural focus and a networking/professional focus - to keep the environment more balanced.

I don't know. I'd like to hear what people's experiences have been if they have had the fortune to attend any such group gatherings.

I know the Indians have stuff like this all the time.

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

sadzz, how did you guys come up with the money for that kind of thing?

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

^ PCG the one i was part of, it was a uni group... so we got money from uni to run the group...

as for the one I attend now... i have a feeling its through councils? I can find out for you... but i know when they need to run social events, they can get the local government (their local counil) to grant them money for the event... I work in local government and know a little about how these groups can get sponsors and the money to run their social groups.. it's quite interesting. We also hire out our facilities to these groups if the need arises.... there might be something similar in US?

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

Nope...

No government in the States is gonna give a group of Pakistanis to throw a party.

Re: Pakistani Cultural groups

hmmmm why not? its encouraged here. Well not to throw a party, but if you give a good enough reason for having a gathering, hell, they'll even give u like 80% if not 100% of the money to have such an event. If they see it beneficial to their lil electorate, they will do anything :D

like last year, there were these old greek folk.. like retired folk who needed a place to meet up 2-3 times a week... so our council let them have the town hall 3 times a week for a good 6 or so months... all they did was cook the yummiest food (using our main kitchen) and sit and talk to one another.. how cute?

I am in NY and I know no one.. I don't know why :(

thisi is exaclty what i find..no middle ppl
