Pakistani cricketers demands rise in pay

Re: Pakistani cricketers demands rise in pay

Well in that case why dont you think about poverty when you look for that better job or ask for a raise or maybe even just look for you own business to do better (if you own one).
Look the point is that PCB doesnt have to give them a raise, they could just amend the exsisting contracts.

I say do it doesnt hurt me or you.

Re: Pakistani cricketers demands rise in pay

I disagree. I have several friends in Pakistan, who qualified with me and joined various multinational companies circa 1997. With nine years of experience, none of them are CEO's etc, nor are likely to be any time soon. Each and every one of them is making more than Rs 250k a month. And thats just the salary paid to them every month. And then there are assorted perks i.e. company maintained car, full medical reimbursement etc on top. In addition they have annual and performance bonuses. They are practically nobodys in Pakistan corporate culture and they make that kind of money. Contrast them with these guys on our national team who play in front of millions of fans, and when they win, we have national holidays declared by the government. And the Board pays them a paltry 200k as salary, and thats at the highest end! For shame.

Whats the point of calling it a salary if its just peanuts? I tell you. Because calling it a salary makes the board their employer, and then the board can twist their arm and make them do whatever the Board wants. Assorted sponsorship deals are irrelevant in this discussion. If you know the amount of money our cricket board makes from sponsorship deals and media rights etc, the comparison between what the board takes on on the backs of these cricketers and what it turns around and pays to these guys is shameful. This is no way to treat national athletes. Yeah, for club level or first-class cricket a lower amount is ok, because these clubs don't make that kind of money anyway. But not for a national team.

Re: Pakistani cricketers demands rise in pay

What the f** are you talking about? Performance during the World Cup is totally irrelevant to the issue. In fact, a bigger paycheque would make them work harder during the World Cup :o .*

Re: Pakistani cricketers demands rise in pay

exume me! money would make them work harder! are you forgetting the world-series match fixing with Australia!!!

Re: Pakistani cricketers demands rise in pay

Yes that is the one strong point they do have, the PCB makes insane amounts of money. I for one would rather see that money being spent on the appalling conditions of the stadiums here. Like renovations for Karachi National Stadium. Electronic scoreboards, hell even a giant screen for replays. We are the worst in world cricket when it comes to cricket infrastructure. Other stadiums like the one in Hyderabad have been converted to shaadi halls. It would be great if the PCB could start such renovation plans and spend money on the grass root levels of cricket. That would be great investment in the long run.

What ticked me off most about the salary thing, was they didn’t just ask for a raise, they wanted the retainers to be DOUBLED. Such issues should have been raised when they first handed out. Now it makes them look greedy. But anyways lets see what the board has to say.

Re: Pakistani cricketers demands rise in pay

if one remember pakistani players during the last indian series demanded money from the local media , when they gave interviews. well i think that all the sports men in the world r very rich, it doesnt matter from where they belong to, pakistani channels r not poor , they can invite sonu nigam by investing million dollar, amir khan, brian adams, arrange high cost entrance shows , then why cant they give that money to local players. PCB is earning a lot, just bcoz of these cricketers, the money is there........how much is there earning period, at most 10 or 15 years, then they have no source of earning. PCB should increase the amount, this will get rid of the complex of pak playrs & so better the performence.

Re: Pakistani cricketers demands rise in pay

Pay rises are usually associated with improved performance or inflation adjusted. Has the Pak cricket team improved its test rankings? ODI rankings? Question then arises who is responsible and how much.

I agree with skhan on this issue for the simple reason Pak cricket team has yet to deliver results whih translates into additional income for Pcb or its sponsors. Winning a few test series against whom? Bangladesh, home series against depleted England, not enough. When they go to England and perform, then they will have deserved a pay rise. These guys are smart enuff to ask for pay raises b4 the English series, they very well know it may not be the cake walk they have become accustomed.

When these players ask for pay rises then they also commit to increased responsibility and are expected to deliver against better teams, if they fail then they sud expect an equal and opposite reaction.

Finally, players like Inzi and M Yusuf should be thinking about their fitness levels before they sign any contracts. You have to be physically fit on the same level which commensurates with the level of incomes demanded.

Pay increase for Pakistan stars

The Pakistan Cricket Board has awarded its players a 25% increase in their central contracts and match fees ahead of the tour of England this summer.

It follows a campaign by the players for a rise and skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq said: “We are satisfied with the raise and the incentives from the board.”

The number of contracts offered has been reduced, however, from 23 to 20.
Arshad Khan, Yasir Hameed and Shabbir Ahmed, who is serving a ban for an illegal action, are the unlucky ones.

PCB spokesman Abbas Zaidi said the board had decided on the increase because the recent success of the team had improved the ruling body’s financial position.

Since March 2005 Inzamam’s team have lost only two of 13 Tests and secured home series wins over England and India, plus a 1-0 success in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan’s tour of England in July comprises four Tests and five one-day internationals.
