The umpiring standards across all the cricketing nations has gone down over the past 10 years. The first test between England and Sri Lanka was an example of this fact. I did not see the WI v India series, but from the complaints I read about the decisions given against Tendulkar, suggest the same for that series.
One of the suggestions could be (certainly for the LBW decisions) is to have a line drawn from the off and leg stump towards the other end (stumps). This will help in at least judging whether the ball pitched outside the leg stump or not?
Also, I believe every three months (this is not a joke) the umpires should have eyes and hearing tested. The amount of times nicks that are not given, and the amount of times you see the batsmen being given out to a rising deilvery that has hit the batsmen on the thigh pad is not acceptable.

I'm going to be a little off topic here but Neutral Umpires are really important, now days you are seeing an umpire doing umpiring for with his own country playing.
Most of them don't take anysides but when a mistake is made the side which the umpire doesn't belong to feels cheated.

Umair, now a days both umpires in a test match are neutral, this started very recently and in the recently concluded series between WI and India both umpires were neutral.
