^ The above is an excellent article. I have always liked Osman Samiuddin’s writing style.

As he says, Islamization of the Pak Cricket Team is a recent phenomenon. And I think Youhana got sucked into it.

Personally, I do not like players who overly promote religion on the field (like answering questions with “Bismillah…” etc or kneeling down and praying on the pitch)…they should remember that their audience comprises of all people from various religions. And more importantly…their primary job is to play cricket.

I’m not sure what your problem is, but i dont see any law governing how people should celebrate or answer questions, is there? People should be able to do the above without any pressure of coming under scrutiny for doing what is natural for them, and a way of life. I dont see what you’re pissed off about… Muslims are happy for obvious reasons, it has nothing to do with cricket, or his calibre as a player.

some1,tht shows how much strong islam is...inspite of all the propoganda and sectarian thingies,Islam is still enough powerful to make christians and hindus muslims ;)..tht means follower of other religions have no faith in their religion...

by the way,yousuf accepted Islam beac he was impressed.....he was pressurized as this thing does not make sense in any condition

Some1, I don't see why people are having problems with players using Islamic terms in conversation, or kneeling on the ground. No-one had a problem when Yousaf Youhanna made a cross on his chest every time he scored a 50 or a 100.

SOME 1, Why is it such a big problem for you understanding that Pakistani's in Pakistan can do anything they like to do, whether its inziman, youhana or kaneria. Do the minorities in india behave in a different manner or are they always afraid to express their religoius thoughts openly?

I was once studying with an indian muslim friend of mine and during that session she took a break to say her prayers. She later told me that in India she never openly couldn't tell someone that its her prayer time and she has to say her prayers.

btw, I am calling ceasefire here.

I do not have as big a problem with Youhan's conversion as it may seem from my posts. Just that Paki players should concentrate on playing cricket like the Paki players of yesteryears (of the pre-Zia era as Osman Samiuddin points out) and not on the length of their beards. They should also refrain from invoking religion at the drop of the hat.....esp when they are being beamed to an international audience.

Did it occur to you that the one of the largest maccacre of muslims in a country where muslims are in great number also occured in India. I can’t even imagine thoughts of a person like you if such an incident with hindus will occur in Pakistan.
