Pakistani cleric offers reward for killing of cartoonist

Goodtimes.

A Pakistani cleric today offered 1.5m rupees (£9,600) and a car as a reward to anyone who killed the cartoonist who drew images of the prophet Muhammad.

Mohammed Yousaf Qureshi, a prayer leader at the Mohabat Khan mosque in Peshawar, made the announcement to a 1,000-strong crowd outside the mosque after Friday prayers.
“This is a unanimous decision by all imams that whoever insults the prophet deserves to be killed, and whoever will take this insulting man to his end will get this prize,” he said.

I think he should be thrown in Jail for issuing threats.

Meanwhile, a radical “Islamic” leader is arrested along with 100 others in Pakistan over violent protests.

No doubt, more arrests will follow.

Offering money to kill the cartoonist is a bit ridiculous, IMHO. Violence leads to no where and it’s about time people realise this. There’s already a major backlash against Muslims living in Europe and I am sure it will just get worse in time.

It will cost 1.5 million rupees just to cover the costs and logistics to get to denmark he needs to up the bounty :)

Irfan hussain of dawn exudes exactly the same sentiment…

For me, the most trenchant comment came in the form of a cartoon sent by an American reader. In the first panel, a bearded man clad in the cartoonist’s version of shalwar-kameez is frothing at the mouth, shouting “Blasphemy! Death to cartoonists!”, while behind him a wall bears the legend: “Outrage over some cartoons”. In the next panel, the graffiti in the background says: “Outrage over the treatment of women, hostage beheadings, suicide bombings, honour killings.” Our bearded hero is shown here looking at his watch and mumbling: “Oops… Getting late. Gotta go.”

Its called Freedom of Speech. Deal with it. After all I have not heard a single statement of sentiment with regard to the Holocaust Trial in Austria? Or is Freedom of Speech denied when it doesn't agree with your own political and ideological agenda?
