Pakistani Cinema will never be revived

Well how good for you :chai:

Well then you shouldn’t use the term “industry” at all - an industry is about
having a sector that produces a product that can be sold on the market, if you say that’s not important well then we aren’t really talking about reviving an industry but making a few movies that flatter and impress those who have access to the special viewings abroad at various film festivals -

who says fine art movies can’t be sold? Who says Pakistanis don’t want to watch fine movies in Pakistan - The thing is that channel is missing in Pakistan completely - no cinemas, no nothing, no infrastructure…crappy studios…no government support WHATSOEVER…fine that we have some talent but when their works aren’t really easy to access…hhhmmmm

  • Kudos to those whose movies make it to Cannes, but what’s the point when the population of your country has no access to watching the movies unless they are as priviledged as you are.
…that’s not exactly revival of an industry, is it?

I agree with this verdict of yours -

gotta agree with Stalker. not expecting anything from Shaan... his mouth is a 100x bigger than the meager talent he has. Syed Noor is just awful.

Shoaib Mansoor's film is the only good one on the horizon.

there is one other one which was in the press on and off but haven't read about in a while. the film was supposed to be a Pak-India co-production in Punjabi. normally I'm very skeptical about this kind of stuff especially the crap that Bhatt pushes out. but in this one, Jawad Ahmed was one of the producers. Mehreen Raheel and Naumaan Ijaz were acting in it from our side. Nauman Ijaz is a FANTASTIC actor. if he is in something, I'll probably watch it just for him. so, lets see if that film comes out. and I think it was supposed to be a real film - not the same old romantic musical rubbish.

Re: Pakistani Cinema will never be revived

^ I think you're referring to the film called 'Virsa' which was meant to be out last year but is currently facing delays due to finance issues.

We most definitely are talking about reviving an industry. Its not done the way it used to be. Folks I know don’t do films for the pleasure of special audiences. Good films don’t need government support. Great ideas certainly don’t. With digital, its all accelerating on its own, from what I have been witnessing in the past five years. None of the old mentality applies because film makers, even poor ones like me have more marketing tools to make good money with our stuff, even if none of my product ever makes it on the big screen. Very few films do in fact. The business is complicated like that.

I feel Cannes and Sundance are a showpiece for the already privileged. Film festivals I’m talking about are small regional/local ones where a film maker can earn some respect, make connections, and some good change to make their film better, or start marketing it more, or just fund the next project.

Either way, the independent stuff the pakistani’s are doing in the States and even Europe is a million times better then any indian/pakistani movie out there. It’s just so satisfying to watch.

Imagine a world withOUT homosexual/amitabh types shaking their butts every five minutes in mainstream pakistan/indian movies one day! It will happen. No more extreme overacting. Just IMAGINE merited actors giving genuine performances of stories about everything BUT the love triangle! Satisfying.

**Virsa is indo-pak movie but **](http://www.mp3.com/artist/rahat-fateh-ali-khan/summary/)Rahet Fateh Ali Khan song was great…
