Pakistani arrested in Chile

Listen dude akram,

Did you read my post? I said if you're in Pakistan, you need to contact some or all the TV channels. Avoid GEO though. Express News is good.

Has any foreign channel reported this incident yet? I looked at CNN & BBC, did not find anything. Only Pakistani channels are reporting this. If local TV channels in Chile have reported this, you need to contact the same TV channel with all of this information which you are posting here. It's not going to help you much here. These are just discussion forums.

If you're abroad, try to contact BBC, Reuters.

Did you try to contact Pakistan embassy in Chile? They should be able to help you as Chile is not an arab country.

All my prayers with you & your family.

Re: Pakistani arrested in Chile

akram, you need to contact DAWN News & tell them all that you're posting here. Dont waste time. If they do not take your information seriously, you need to contact all the news channels in Pakistan.

And again, Pakistani embassy in Pakistan should be able to help you as Chile is not an arab country.

They are just trying to continue the 'chain' of this kind of news about Pakistanis. By this, they do not want the shehzad case to just fade out soon so they do not want to stop this chain of news. If you do not raise it through TV channel, the government would not notice or be able to take any action. They might take this as a 'real' case.

Re: Pakistani arrested in Chile

Also if Pakistani TV ignores you go international... even i would resort to trying Press TV the iranians they actually have some political muscle on this sort of thing.

We are doing all we can..

Here is a latest article in a Chilean newspaper.

MashaAllah Saif is very cool-headed and I know how he takes even in the most difficult of times. Like the st uff you read about him saying bad things to countries is very false. He can never say anything negative about any country. In fact he often praised the US and liked it a lot.

Re: Pakistani arrested in Chile

"I am innocent"

Saif Ur Rehman was detained yesterday at the 17th station in Santiago and denied any intention of making explosives.** He said he felt "humiliated" by the treatment of the embassy**. The youth prayed five times a night and day was visited by representatives of the mosque he attended.

In the afternoon, was taken to the Hospital of the U. de Chile. After five minutes he came with the photocopies. After being shut an hour, said there were chemicals in my documents. "

I am not in Pakistan. I have doing like you said since last two days. It is having a positive impact I hope. We are working with the lawyers in Chile.. There is no evidence against him. He is Alhamdulilah innocent.

Re: Pakistani arrested in Chile

"Mohammed Said" does not appear to be a Pakistani name!

Re: Pakistani arrested in Chile

May Allah swt help the innocent!

Who is "Said"?

Re: Pakistani arrested in Chile

Sorry I read only the first post where it is written.

In the beginning the name was mentioned wrong, speaking volumes of media accuracies.

Would you believe it....? The first contact I made was with Dawn News. Guess what, they did not do anything.

Now my father is there in their office in Islamabad. Lets see what they present.

and whose government? Ours? I thought we had none.

Media is nothing but a bar-b-que place where they add spice/salt to everything.

Just to let everyone know, finding explosive residue on hands doesn't in any way mean the person was making a bomb!

Explosives like TNT, NG, NC, Ammonium Nitrate are found extensively in the environment. These compounds are found in shoe glue, newspaper ink, carpets, herbicides, insecticides, etc etc etc... there have been surveys conducted on the possibility of finding explosive traces on random people's clothing/hands etc... a high percentage of people have small traces deposited onto their clothes from the environment. Especially after they've just handled something like a newspaper.

So yeah, just finding explosives on the hands is not going to stand a chance in the court.

People are just overreacting with all the security stuff. Sure life is going to be difficult for ordinary law abiding citizens.

Read this. Hire a good lawyer. Question the contamination control of the lab who performed the test, the training of person who performed the sampling, question their analytical methods, how accurate are their results, is it not possible to get a false positive result, to get contamination from other sources?

One crystal of TNT, for example, contains 30 ng of TNT which can be detected easily by a method called GCMS. Just one crystal! How do we know contamination didn't occur from other sources in the lab??

Your brother is safe if all they could find was explosive residue on his hands. If your brother has no criminal history and if he wasn't involved in any suspicious activities previously, there's no way they can charge him.

He's innocent until proven guilty, which can't be done on the basis of FR residue alone.

^^ Good input BarbieCue. I'm not even sure if the guy has access to a lawyer. We don't know what the Chilean procedures are. If he comes off clean, he HAS to speak up about his ordeal and let the world know what actually happened. Claiming damages is a potential issue you guys may have to look into.

Friends and colleagues in hotel surprised!

SURPRISE FROM NEARBY

A number of people who had contact with Saif were surprised by the indictment to be interviewed.

“He is absolutely a gentleman, very correct, like the ancient knights,” said Alex Garcia, head of reception and reservations of EuroHotel, where Khan made a practice of hotels.

García is declared as the person who knows Khan because he worked daily with him for nearly a month, and was also an instructor of Spanish.

Khan was born in Pakistan on August 21, 1982, is the son of a retired doctor and belongs to a middle class family, said Garcia. He arrived in Chile in January with the intention of studying Spanish and hospitality.

“It is not the image of a terrorist. It is a friendly person, very respectful,” he told the AP the owner of the dormitory where he lived, who identified himself only as Gonzalo.

“It was a quiet person who did not speak much because sometimes his Spanish was not very clear. In the kitchen shared with everyone,” he said.

Gonzalo said Khan told him that he lived a few months in the U.S. and that his trip to Chile was motivated by learning Spanish.

Garcia described him as “a very quiet, very correct, educated, speaks about five languages.” He noted that “one who is hotelier knows when another person knows the profession or not and Khan knows it. His dedication to service, very attentive.”

Mohammed Rumi, secretary general of the Islamic community spokesman for the Chilean and As-Salam mosque, said Khan “came every Friday at the mosque, as all Muslims. No one person stood out because of conflict or problem, just the opposite, very quiet, very quiet. He related to everyone, talking to everyone, met his duties and left. “

Father calls son’s arrest in Chile a trap
By Our Staff Reporter
Thursday, 13 May, 2010

ISLAMABAD, May 12: The father of a Pakistani boy detained in Chile for allegedly having traces of explosives on his clothes while visiting the US embassy alleged on Wednesday that a trap was laid for his son.

Saif-ur-Rehman, 28, was detained by Chilean police on Monday on a charge of entering the US embassy with traces of explosives.

Rehman, who has done his ‘A’ levels from an Islamabad college and graduated from the Punjab University, was doing his internship at a hotel in Chile, where he is pursuing a course in the hospitality industry since January.

Although reports from Chile suggested that Rehman went to the US embassy for visa processing, his father Mehmood Ahmad Rehman Khan claimed he already had a five-year valid visa for the US, adding that his son had been called to the US embassy for some questioning.

“Saif, while chatting on the Skype with his family on May 7 (Friday), told me that a person named Bill had called him from the US embassy in Santiago and asked him to come to the US embassy for some identification check-up,” the father said.Since it was strange for a person to be approached by the US embassy in this way, Mr Khan said his son had informed the Pakistani mission in Chile and the head of his institute about the call.

“My son became a victim of racial profiling and has been detained without a valid reason or evidence. His arrest was clearly a setup,” the distraught father said.

Mr Khan said his son held an exemplary academic record.

Please do not remove… We need to get this news out to as many people as possible.
