Pakistani ‘spy ring’ in army, alleges India

NEW DELHI, Oct 23: New Delhi accused Islamabad on Monday of encouraging Indian soldiers to betray their country and said it had launched a massive operation to weed out those who had become spies.

The allegation came after India said on the weekend it had arrested an army sergeant for allegedly handing secret military papers to a Pakistan High Commission employee, sparking a new spy row between the two countries.

“It is a matter of extreme concern that the ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) is trying to infiltrate and subvert our armed forces,” Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters in the Indian capital.

Pakistan has denied that its employee was involved in espionage activity.

“Our intelligence networks in all the three services are active as there have been inputs that the ISI is trying to infiltrate the services and also make some of the personnel corrupt,” Mr Mukherjee said.

He said the Indian armed forces had launched a major hunt for spies in its million-plus army.

“Sometimes we catch moles. But this time the exercises are aimed at nailing the kingpins,” Mr Mukherjee said.

Two months ago, Pakistan threw out a visa official from the Indian embassy in Islamabad on charges of espionage and India retaliated by expelling a Pakistani diplomat on similar charges.

That round of expulsions was the first since 2002 when the two countries deployed troops on the border in the wake of allegations by India that Pakistan had masterminded an attack on its parliament.

Monday’s statement came as India’s national security adviser came under opposition fire after saying New Delhi may have no ‘clinching’ proof of Pakistan’s alleged involvement in the deadly Mumbai blasts.

National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan had said on Sunday that India had ‘pretty good’, although not possibly ‘clinching’ evidence that the ISI was involved in the July 11 explosions that killed 186 people.

“The national security adviser has weakened our stand about the ISI’s involvement in the Mumbai train bombings,” senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra said.

Re: Pakistani ‘spy ring’ in army, alleges India

ISI not doing well? How many of the regular bomb blasts have they solved?

Maybe a few hunderd spies out of a million is nothing to jump up and down about. In addition we don't know how many Pakistani's are also spies.

And that is if the number is that high, remember the Indians are yelling that the ISI is trying to infiltrate:
"ISI is trying to infiltrate the services and also make some of the personnel corrupt"

If the Army/ISI stayed as professional soldiers, the number would be much higher, and Pakistan would be better off for it.

As the defeat in Waziristan shows, we need a professional and Army capable of beating more than just some punks every now and then

Re: Pakistani ‘spy ring’ in army, alleges India

Are Indians kids? I as a Pakistani accept as a professional hazard the fact that there are bound to be some intelligence elements in Pakistan from India, its the same for all nations, particularly those having a history of trouble with each other. Why are Indians so hyper about such things every now and then?
One would understand if they had found real proof or involvement in some major unrest. But whats normal and a globally accepted fact is suddenly being magnified to imaginary heights every now and then. This is really pathetic and laughable.

Re: Pakistani ‘spy ring’ in army, alleges India

Thats the way, bring down the enemy from within :hehe:

Re: Pakistani ‘spy ring’ in army, alleges India

ISI has its own agenda, it cant be link with the fighting force.
As far as Waziristan is concern, that is totally a different issue, fighting against own people is not an easy job, it is something different from professionalism, it has to do more with emotions.

Something unbelievable from a defence minister of a country.
Even if something has really happened of this kind, it should have been kept secret. It speaks the weaknesses within their ranks.
If Indian soldiers are ready to betray their own country, I am sure there must be some serious grievances prevailing within their ranks. In last few days there were two incidents wherein, Indian soldiers were involved killing their own comrades.

Re: Pakistani ‘spy ring’ in army, alleges India

^ I kind of agree.. when your rival is so worried about your influence, then either you're really good, or there is some serious problem with their military personnel whom they consider so vulnerable, or a combination of both these factors.

Or perhaps the ususal propaganda to convince the world of ISI's wickedness? But why sacrifice the reputation and morale of your own army by expressing 'extreme concern' about their vulnerability to ISI's attempts to infiltrate them!!!

Re: Pakistani ‘spy ring’ in army, alleges India

since our army is infilterated in hundreds and revealing this has dampned the moral of our army, why is pakistan not declaring a war. Any body interested.:D

Re: Pakistani ‘spy ring’ in army, alleges India

No, when over 2000 people are murdered in a few days of bloody orgy, the news gets out rather quick.

Re: Pakistani ‘spy ring’ in army, alleges India

Your a nation that rapes women as state policy… You murder YOUR OWN people and claim that you are a open and just society…
Your Army is so imcompetant that it resorts to the level of terrorsit and criminals…
You hide your idiocy by blaming Pakistan, and yet you have no balls to do anything against us, because unlike the thousands that you people have murdered, we arent easily bullied.
So get over yourself.

Re: Pakistani ‘spy ring’ in army, alleges India
