In recent years I have been pointing out that the Taliban should mend their ways as they’ll lose any support that they might have had in the past. Support means physical as well as tacit. Most of us have been providing justifications (inadvertently) for their actions (in the past, and that includes me too). Pakistani nation is resilient, maybe the terrorists took that as a sign of weakness.
A big proportion of people wanted the government to talk to TTP to sort the issue out, but this instead of resolving the issue emboldened them. They set out to act as the State, while the government seemed to begging them to renounce violence and come to the negotiating table. They wanted to enforce what they considered as Shariah in which there’d be no place for anyone else other than them and their creed.
But as they say “Zulm Barhta hay tou mit jaata hay”.
This is Pakistani 911 moment, the brutalities of Taliban have even left their past sympathizers as speechless.
The government should seize this opportunity and solve this issue once for all. Thanks to TTP’s actions; negotiations (which biggest proportion of the country wanted until recently) is off the table. The nation’s narrative on the war on terror has seen a sea change. Only comprehensive operations against them will resolve this issue.
